maybe but he's been pretty committed to run run run for over a decade, even after it got him fired and even after he saw saving switch to aggressive downfield passing.

I get it. But, I’m still convinced it’s better than we’ve had, and I’m hoping this guy figures out that it’s time to grow.

Quoting the bible and the "not flinching"comment he said twice is just another red flag. Its the same thing Muschamp used to say. Or the dont drop the rope stuff. He also went on and on about how great Mcelwain is and was to him. Does he not realize he was run out on a rail from here? Why would you keep praising a loser like Mac? Not a whole lot there to get me excited. I know I will get roasted by Ox and the others in here that are so excited about this guy. I did like the sound of his plan to have a big support staff. The talk about being balanced and stuff just sounds like Muschamp to me.

And Saban went hard at recruiting elite WRs and QBs: Tua, Hurts & Mac Jones in his QB room at the same time.

Of course, he’s also had Derrick Henry and Najee Harris, and kept our 5* wish Trey Sanders on the bench until absolutely needed…and a pile of elite OL…and…and…

And I bet his 3* signees HAVE proven to be better than their ratings. Saban evaluates mindset as well as physical talent. They have to buy into the system, which is the development process Napier laid out. It’s what Meyer espoused and did successfully in many cases, but not as thoroughly or consistently as Saban. Remember when Meyer started how his coaches were showing up at players’ rooms and critiquing their messes, checking on class attendance, etc.?

The development process with the facilities and effective staff will attract the best players. That’s the right approach. With the emphasis on recruiting, we’ll get our share of players. We just have to wait to see if it’s successful. No way around that.

To paraphrase Santyana, “those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them.” Seems like it should be common sense: Hmmmm….the last three guys who had this job got fired after three or four seasons; let’s see if I can figure what they did wrong and not make the same mistakes. If nothing else, Napier seems smarter than the last three guys.

If you have a dominant OL, you can game plan around your QB's strengths and weaknesses better. If you have a dominant defense, you can gameplan around around risk taking.

We'd all love to see an SOS offense, but I'd take a strong OL and run game over what we had this year. Plus I think he'll open it up more with capable QB's.

I’m relieved he didn’t go all out Bozo looking for orange leather dress shoes at Johnston & Murphy.

Johnson & Murphy are elite 5*. I say: "recruit 'em both.
And did he really say: "Let's get those dorms done quick - hire Ikea.",?

why is he even there? they fired his old ass. errrrr... he retired.
I’ve asked this question a few times here. Is he employed by anyone? Who is he writing for? Shouldn’t you have press credentials to even be there?

Let me guess

“Coach, Pat Dooley. Are you ready for the gidiots who want instant gratification and don’t understand the way you and I do about how this stuff works? Have you heard Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac? Don’t you wish entitled fans would go their own way and let us big boys handle the real business of football? I was talking to Pete Thamel the other day about Nick, you know, from Alabama, and—“
“I learned a new song on my guitar! Wanna hear it?”

True. But at least we finally have one. And I get the sense if his initial plan isn’t working, this guy won’t just twiddle his thumbs and stick his head up his ass pretending everything’s fine like his predecessors. Like I said earlier, we’ll know a lot more about his abilities by the middle of his 2nd season. He’s got a ton of work to do, and the good thing is that I think he realizes it.

It won't take to the middle of the 2nd season. We'll know by the Dec 2022. That'll give us as season to observe his staff, his game management, and recruiting and early signing day. In fact, it shouldn't take the whole season to get a feel for his staff and his game management.

Well guys I'm real sorry to be a downer and everything but considering how psyched I am about this hire I figured an explanation is owed why I guess I won't be here for the festivities today.

My Dad just called to say my Mom has passed. I have to tidy up my affairs for the week so I can go over there to Clearwater now.

Kind of in shock.

Guess I will see you fellas later. Go Gators!!
3G sorry to hear of your family's loss,
and all our best wishes go out to you and your entire family

He was asked if he spoke to MacButters, but I don't recall him specifically saying "yes he spoke to him". I recall that he more went into thanking MacButters for welcoming him or something along those lines.

I thought that was weird to. I really couldn't hear him talking that well so wasn't exactly sure who it was or what he said. But I did think it was weird he was the only person with no mic. Now I see why
