Sensitive nope but sick of the continued whining about the past and predicting the same result about the present and future makes me question if some people here are Gators or Dawg ****t infiltrators. Tell us again how you hated the Mullen, McElwein, Muschamp, Meyer, Zook hires as though we haven't heard it regularly for as long as this board has been in existence.

I have to say, denim on denim was a bold choice, especially with the woven fedora (or perhaps a Panama hat?) - and, it’s hard to tell…is that an ascot?!? Well I join you in your non-sensitive rage-post and cry “balderdash” along side you!!

Thanks for the kind words.

I think most people outside of the players are scared of the changes that the NIL could bring. I believe the NCAA got so scared of the lawsuits that were about to come down from some players about not being compensated that they just left the door wide open. It will get reined in at some point, but Napier and company need to take every advantage they can muster at this point and then like I wrote above i feel they can adjust with the people he has around him.

As for Mullen. I gave him the benefit of the doubt with recruiting in the first couple of years in because he handled the brand new transfer portal pretty well. I thought that the portal might be the niche he could really take advantage of by getting older proven players on programs that weren't succeeding and show them that they could play right away for a better team in Gainesville. He was able to bring those types of players pretty much throughout, but the recruiting got worse.

The kicker for me for me was the end of the 2020 season and then the start of the 2021 calendar year. The LSU game in 2020, I felt like he absolutely didn't prepare his team for that game because he thought there was no way to lose and then the bowl game against Oklahoma where they were just miserable. In January it was clear that he was NFL job searching and I was steamed that he wasn't willing to squash that stuff in the media shortly after it was clear that he had no chance at the NFL as a head coach. He just didn't care at that point. I was done with the guy before the 2021 season ever started.

At least half of us on this board were done with Mullen by the end of the 2020 season as well but because we are not members of the media, we were called everything from Gidiots to whiney malcontents.
It would have helped quite a bit if members of the media that felt like you did would have been willing to voice that opinion in real time versus now.
One of the reasons that Gator chatter is thriving is because there is no other outlet for honest assessment of the gator athletics program.

I appreciate your insight and I agree with what you have said.

I think this highlights the challenge in being a member of the media covering college sports. For folks like @Hollywood Bob and @Thomas Goldkamp it's next to impossible to do their job without access to the staff at the universities they cover. Get too sharp in criticism and access gets shut off. No access means they get no info with which to write a story. I totally agree with your post, but don't expect it will happen much. And at the end of the day, can you really blame them?

I think everyone realizes that, my point is that a true media person would push back against this policy and forge change.
Believe it or not it wasn’t always this way. Back in the day, Jack Hairston of the Gainesville Sun was one of the harshest critics of the program when it deserved criticism. Although I am sure the various AD’s during his tenure didn’t like it, they were professional enough to deal with it and try to be better at their jobs.
Nowadays a public university is allowed to act like a drug cartel and eliminate any threats to their comfortable chairs .
One would think that all the money in the program would drive full disclosure versus accepted secrecy but that is not the case.

Surprised to see someone mention “ Jack Hairston” was a hell of a beat reporter. I bet 1946 has some good things to say about him.

You can thank Saban for that and everyone emulated it.

Maybe BN can bring us full circle and field a balanced team that doesn't have to try and hide it's weaknesses on one side of the ball or the other....weird that in 4 or 5 seasons we went from a programed stocked with NFL talent on defense and a train wreck on offense to a sometimes decent offense with a defense that would fold like a deck of cards.
I loved the balance we had under SOS and Meyer(for the short time)....quality up and down both LOS and playmakers behind them...

It starts with the OL and DL. Build it and they will score.

Agreed

And when we have a regime that wins 6 titles in 13 years, they can treat the media and we fans like Saban does.
Until then, check the egotistical paranoia at the door and stand up to honest scrutiny.

Seven figure salaries and a cocoon to hide in.
What a great career.

Yup. I feel like weve been hiding weaknesses up front on one side of the ball or the other since 2010. I think 2018 was about the best we're seen and even that team wasn't anything special.

If it were me, I'd open up practice...you cross the line and you're banned.

I'd also open up to HS Coaches...as much as allowed.

And alumni would be welcome with open arms.

The entire state needs to talk about the family at UF.

Its what we do here Joe. Just piss and moan and beat the dead horse into dust. If FF and a few others cannot make miserable about M, M, M and M and Z once a day its like missing that cup of coffee. Its almost funny now. I have come to expect it.

Because they trashed the program...they were overpaid...and in the case of the last coach were arrogant and lazy.

We've had to accept slop for over a decade.

But if you really want pissed...go see PF and see what we think of your side.
