I just rubbed them on the old carpet, and they ended up blacker than midnight in Persia.

I once had a 67 Barracuda. Only had a little 318 in it though.
318 wasn't a bad motor. I had with a 64 Valiant coupe with a 318(think Barracuda without the fastback) that I ran in N stock class at the old Thunderbolt Raceway. It was the same block as the 273 which was a real screamer.

Plenty more progress today! Here's where we were when I got home from work:

First, I re-installed the plastic box on the center console tunnel. I then put the HVAC unit, the stereo, and the DIC back in the dash tower. Then finally installed some carpet!

Then I attacked the trim piece that goes along the transmission tunnel. This contains an exposed plastic piece, which I painted, with carpet glued on the rest of it. Here is what it looked like with the old carpet peeled off:

I used a strong spray adhesive on both the plastic and the back of the carpet, and glued the new black piece on. I was then able to muscle it into the car. I also re-installed the seat belt unit along the tunnel.

I'm sorry, but calling an 89 Vette a 'classic car' is taking it a little too far, IMO. I applaud Ox for doing all he's doing to resurrect this beast, but I'd be a little more interested if it were a 60s-era car.
Yeah, but you're an old fart who grew up in the 60's. I'm 39 and grew up in the 80's. 1980's cars to me are like 1960's cars to you.

To each his own - I still prefer the 69 version over the 89 - but I wouldn't mind owning the 89 either.

So how much are you paying the mechanic Ox to fix up your car?

In all honesty, I'd rather have the 69 as well.

My favorite generation of Vettes are the C2 (1963-67). Do I have tens of thousands to blow on one? Naw.

But for those on a budget, the C4 Vettes (1984-96) can be had for an absolute song right now.

I hope you've verified all the wiring/connectors before putting that puppy back together.

Okay, we're moving right along. Today I start taking apart the hatch section and stripping carpet. Like everything else, it was a hideous mess. Took the speakers out - even they were disgusting. Here it is after being cleaned up:

Now it's time to put some carpet in the hatch!

Then the carpet behind the seats goes in:

Next on deck is the door sill carpet on the passenger side. You have to practically climb over a wall to get into these cars, and there's carpet on the sill, which is glued to a plastic cover. I sprayed adhesive on the back of the carpet and the plastic, and joined them together. Tomorrow I'll properly trim it and get it in the car.

That black carpet is looking great, ox. Can't wait to see it once everything is reinstalled.
