Wow! Apparently Saban "got into it" with Finebaum during a commercial break while on his set.

Nick Saban suggests arresting officers of Cam Robinson and Hootie Jones were disgruntled LSU fans

Another layer was added to the drama involving Paul Finebaum and Alabama coach Nick Saban on Wednesday.

As reported by AL.com, Saban suggested to Finebaum in a commercial-break rant at SEC Media Days that the arresting officers of Cam Robinson and Hootie Jones on May 17 were LSU fans and that the allegiance played a part in the arrest.

Here’s how AL.com framed the information:

Within earshot of media, Saban launched into a four-letter tirade directed at Finebaum. In it, he used his fingers to note the small amount of marijuana found in the car and insinuated the arresting officers were disgruntled LSU fans.

It ended with a few laughs from everyone on set as Saban exited.

It’s a juicy nugget, and it’s interesting to consider. Consider it another dynamic in the LSU-Alabama rivalry.

So right now, considering everything that's going on nationally, he's going to point fingers at some cops for the crimes that his players were committing?

Nick Saban is a grade A, fully certified azzhole.

Well, the problem isn't the weed either. It's the stolen gun that was found. This is amazing. I know our coach learned a lot in his 4 years under Saban....hopefully he leaves this part behind and takes Saban's advice to "be his own man"! Unbelievable these kids weren't suspended or have to face the student judiciary process.

It's already become extremely apparent that mac doesn't tolerate this behavior for anyone on the team, even the top guys. Saban has always been a cover and conceal coach. He's a win at all costs guy no matter what he may say; jimbo fisher is his best disciple in that regard.

I think mac got the process and leadership part and left the crap at the door.

Saban: “I don’t really care to answer the critics, because I’m going to do what’s right for the players. If the players really did anything that wrong, they would have gotten charged with something.”

Finebaum: “That’s debatable, if you listen to what the district attorney said, an unintelligent response.”

Saban: “The district attorney didn’t say what all was — there were four people in the car. Why did the two football players get arrested and the other guys not get arrested? There’s no law about concealed weapons in Louisiana. Why did they search the car just because there was a gun on the seat?”

Finebaum: “Do you think they were persecuting the football (players)?”

Saban: “There’s just a lot of questions there that are reasons there weren’t charges brought against these guys. Now, do we condone the behavior? No. But you’re innocent until proven guilty in this country, regardless if you get convicted in the media or not, which is what you’re doing to these players.”

Finebaum: “I’m just asking why you’re not going to suspend Cam Robinson for the Southern Cal game.”

Saban:Because I’m not going to convict him in the public. You said I was going to get criticized by you and the public and the media because I’m not going to suspend him, and I don’t really care about that. That’s the end of the conversation.”

The conversation moved to other topics, and then SEC Network went to commercial. But during that break, Saban continued to have a heated exchange with Paul Finebaum, which was caught by AL.com, but there’s little audio.

After the commercial, Finebaum wouldn’t disclose the details, but said Saban was more upset at the process than Finebaum himself.

“Our obligation is to the audience,” Finebaum said. “We learned a great deal. I’m very interested the anger we saw on the air and the incredible anger we saw off the air. I realize people say tell us what happened. If there was a video of what Coach Saban to me and all of us in the two or three minutes after that interview, it would go viral on the internet with 14 million hits. I’ve seen him in a lot of situations on the field, it’s as upset and as angry — the anger wasn’t at me; it was at the system and what he thinks happened to his players in the state of Louisiana.”

Finebaum added: "He's insinuating that this was an inside job, that his players in Louisiana were being persecuted. And I believe, based on what he said, that he thinks they were being persecuted because they were in Louisiana and there was some LSU connection.”

You know Saban has jumped the shark when even Finebaum won't support him on this one.

The Finebaum thing was all staged - in advance. Finebaum is Saban's personal knob-licker.

Saban was waiting for another media type to ask the Robinson question so Saban could use it as a forum to go off on him and defend poor Cammy. Nobody did in the at-large session so pencil-neck was called in from the pen to take one for the team.

I may not agree with his decision on the players, but Saban sure knows how to handle the media and how to defend his players. I can see why players want to play for him. He's very convincing in his speech. Jimbo tries, but is not in his league.

Not so much these days. Now that slimbomb went national, he's not on saban's leash anymore.

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/monroe-police-fires-back-nick-saban-lsu-fans-comment/

Monroe, Louisiana police disputes Saban's allegation that police were LSU fans.

“I can tell you for a fact that the first officer on the scene is not an LSU fan,” Bates told The Advertiser’s Glenn Gulibeau Wednesday afternoon. “He hates LSU. He doesn’t like the color yellow or purple and gold. In fact, he’s a Florida fan. If you mention LSU around him, he throws up in his mouth. Most of our officers are LSU fans, but we have some who are Arkansas fans and Georgia fans and Alabama fans. And I’ll tell you this, the first officer did not even know those guys were players.”
