Since there's a thread comparing their 2 defensive classes, I thought it would be fair to compare their first classes completely.

I would be remiss if I didn't add that Chump left Mac with FIVE commits just before the dead period. FIVE.

He then brought on 17 recruits in 1 MONTH. One recruit came on in December.

Some interesting comparisons:

Chump: ZERO DTs. 2 OL ---- Mac: 2 DTs. 6 OL
Chump had 2 players never show up: Blakely and McRoy
Mac had 2 players never show up: McGriff and Imatorbhebhe.

Also Chump had the #1 QB in the country and the #3 Dual Threat QB in the country.

HOWEVER, it's important to note the amount of Non-Ranked position players under Mac's 1st class. Many of them seem to be beating out the incumbents. Is it a better eye for talent? Coaching?

But you be the judge. How many players from that 2011 class became any good? Was it an issue with talent? Or an issue with coaching? How much more important is coaching than talent? Or vice-versa?

I've lined up the recruits so they can be seen side by side and by position.

Very interesting comparison. If you look at Muschamp's first class you see very few who ever contributed. The funny thing is that Muschamp was coming in after Urban when the team was only a couple years away from being National Champions. It should have been easier for him to recruit and while I know his class ranked better... they didn't actually perform very well.

I would argue that Callaway and Cece have already had bigger impacts than most of Muschamp's class.... Some people might argue that Tevon Westbrook contributed much by dropping that pass in the end zone against LSU and helping to get Muschamp fired :-)

Is Hunter Joyner the best player in Muschamp's class?

Yep. I also think that Del Rio will turn out better than either of the 2 QBs in that class. But I don't think it was an issue with talent. It was an issue with coaching. Also, which RBs would you rather have?

All the talented offensive players in Chumps class ended up transferring or getting kicked out. Whatever happened with Blakely at Auburn?

Well Blakey never really played for us.

I actually think Cronkrite ran very well last year and in the spring game. Scarlett has showed flashes as well. Joyner was a beast as a FB and made some key blocks, but right now I would take the Jordans.

I also agree that a lot of this is coaching. Athletic ability matters and you can't coach speed and quickness, but a lot of these kids are great athletes with speed and quickness and just need to learn the game and that is where great coaching can make a difference.

Zuniga was expected to grow into a DT/DE. He is down 25lbs since HS, and he is at 240 lbs. Were they trying to see if he could play LB and be a situational player?

I'm not worried about their transition year class everyone always says to throw that one away. Let's see a breakdown of their 1st full cycle classes.

How can we do that? They haven't even played a down of college football yet.

Well, in all fairness, Duncecramp's coaching greatness and the subsequent continuation of the Meyer-led dynasty was derailed by substandard facilities, after all. I'm thinking we'd have 2 more Nattys and maybe 3 more SEC titles if we'd gotten the IPF sooner, along with a few more weights in the weight room.

:lmao2:

Look I understand that this is the "Talking season" and we are trying to drum up some action. However, I am in the camp that I would like for this thread to resurface in about 3 years to really compare the two first classes. It would make this conversation a lot more interesting. IMHO.

There won't be anything to compare. In just comparing the 1st class, Mac's class is already performing better. And they're only 1 year in.

Come on...coaches have always liked "their" kids. That's not a secret hence the transfers when the new guy comes in. We need to see wins on the field.

How'd he do against the meat of the schedule? But that was ALL Treon's fault so nevermind.

Considering we played without an oline and a first year QB for half a year and then a smurf that completed more passes in the third row than on the field, he did ok.

SEC COY and made it to ATL. He did well. The wheels came off at the end against real teams. Worst Eastern div since we went to two divisions. Tallest midget last year. Let's see what happens this season.
