Great hire:

Oregon: Colorado defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt will join the Oregon staff in the same role, according to Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman, who adds that Leavitt will get a 4-year deal and be the highest paid coordinator in Pac-12 history. Leavitt was a finalist for the Broyles Award this season, improving Colorado’s scoring defense from No. 119 before he arrived to No. 18 in his second year with the program. Feldman adds that Leavitt interviewed for the Ole Miss defensive coordinator job.

Western Kentucky: Notre Dame offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach Mike Sanford has been named head coach at WKU. This fills the last FBS head coaching opening. ESPN reports Sanford will make $800,000 annually on a 4-year deal.

Florida Atlantic: Along with offensive coordinator Travis Trickett going to Georgia State, the Sun Suntinel reports at least five more assistants will not be retained: defensive coordinator Roc Bellantoni, running backs coach Jared Allen, tight ends coach / special teams coordinator Chris Hurd, defensive line coach Terrance Jamison and safeties coach Ben Strickland. The remaining three assistants’ status will be determined by the next offensive and defensive coordinators. That includes offensive line coach Garin Justice, wide receivers coach Dan Shula and cornerbacks coach Corey Bell.

This would be an interesting hire at UF (or at any school):

Scott Shafer: The former Syracuse head coach is in the mix for multiple defensive coordinator positions. Shafer joined the Maryland staff as defensive coordinator last offseason, but resigned in April due to personal reasons. Shafer was a defensive coordinator at five schools from 2000-12, before the promotion to Syracuse head coach.
