Wait, sources say mac reached out to who before promoting Shannon? Todd Grantham? Because if so I'd say this is just one more in a long line of exhibits of why Mac is a joke. Granthan is a garbage DC and a POS as a man.

He's a POS person but a very good DC.

Unless I misheard, then yes.

Well, it's confirmed....looks like Mason is taking the Cal job:

Vanderbilt: Derek Mason tweets, “Regarding Cal rumors....to my team, our fans & #GoldRush17, I'm firmly Anchored Down in Nashville. Let's Ride!”

Butch Davis has completed his full-time coaching staff at FIU.

Davis has returned to full-time coaching for the first time since 2010, and he put together a staff with a lot of ties to him and the Miami area. Here is the FIU staff:

2017%20FIU%20staff.png

One of Davis’ first hires was defensive coordinator Brent Guy, who last coached in 2015 as Memphis safeties coach. He has head coaching experience at Utah State and coordinating experience at Louisville, Arizona State and Boise State.

To lead the offense, Davis hired Elon head coach Rich Skrosky, who spent three years at the school. Skrosky was previously the offensive coordinator at Ball State and has more OC experience at lower levels.

The Miami ties begin with Kevin Beard. The former Miami (FL) player under Davis coached high school ball in the area and spent 2014-15 on Al Golden’s staff with the Hurricanes. He spent last year as an analyst at Georgia.

Defensive line coach Kenny Holmes also played under Davis at Miami. He has coached in the Florida high school ranks and spent the last two years at Idaho.

Offensive line coach Allen Mogridge worked for Davis at North Carolina and has also coached at UCF. He spent last year at Georgia Southern.

Davis retained two coaches: Running backs coach Tim Harris Jr. and Bobby Babich, the latter who coached defensive backs and served as interim defensive coordinator in 2016. Harris is entering his third year on staff, and Babich his second.

Babich will work with fellow defensive backs coach Eric Thatcher, who comes from Pitt and previously worked at Slippery Rock.

The last addition to the staff was special teams coordinator James Vollono, who also comes from Georgia. Vollono was a quality control assistant for Davis at UNC from 2007-08.

Davis’ first three games at FIU will be at UCF, vs. Alcorn State and at Indiana.

Hugh Freeze has completed an overhaul of the Ole Miss staff.

With the addition of Jacob Peeler, Freeze has his new set of nine assistants. Coming off a 5-7 season, Freeze made major changes to a staff that had a lot of continuity. Here’s the new Ole Miss staff.

2017%20Ole%20Miss%20staff%202.png

Offensive coordinator Dan Werner wasn’t retained after the year, and defensive coordinator Dave Wommack retired.

To run the offense, Freeze hired Phil Longo, who has produced some of the top FCS offenses at Sam Houston State. This year’s team scored 49.5 points per game, No. 2 in FCS. Longo comes from an Air Raid background, and Freeze has been involved in play-calling in the past. It will be interesting to see how the two mesh next year with QB Shea Patterson.

“Specifically, his units have excelled in three key areas that we need to address — rushing offense, third down efficiency and red zone success,” Freeze said. “From Chip Kelly to Joe Moorhead, we have seen offensive coordinators make successful transitions from FCS to FBS, and I expect Phil to continue that trend.”

To run the defense, Freeze hired Wes McGriff from Auburn. McGriff was set to become Vanderbilt’s coordinator in 2015, but stayed with the New Orleans Saints and joined Auburn as a position coach last year. McGriff was previously Ole Miss’ co-defensive coordinator / cornerbacks coach in 2012. Ole Miss safeties coach Corey Batoon was set to move to an off-field role, but later joined the FAU staff.

Wide receivers coach Grant Heard left for the Indiana staff, so Freeze hired another familiar face in Oregon's Matt Lubick, who was an Ole Miss assistant from 2005-06 alongside Freeze. But Lubick left shortly after for an offensive coordinator job at Baylor. Then Freeze turned to Jacob Peeler, who spent four years at Cal, including two in a full-time role.

Bradley Dale Peveto will remain in the SEC, joining Ole Miss after he was let go by Ed Orgeron at LSU. Peveto spent seven years at LSU over two stints. He was the Northwestern State head coach from 2009-12 and was in the mix for the Lamar head coaching job this offseason.

The other defensive addition was another familiar face. North Carolina defensive line coach Tray Scott was a graduate assistant under Freeze at Arkansas State and then at Ole Miss in 2012. He spent two years as UT-Martin’s defensive line coach and the past two at UNC.

“We knew we had a star on our staff when Tray was with us as a graduate assistant, and we are thrilled to welcome him back,” Freeze said.

This was the first year Freeze missed a bowl game at Ole Miss. Couple that with a recruiting class ranked No. 45 and questions looming over an NCAA investigation, Freeze is facing some pressure. A staff that had little turnover in Freeze’s first five years now has major changes. Time will tell if it pays off.

Okay, sure. Top 20 three years in a row is awful.

I get it, you guys don't like the guy. I don't either. He's now going to his 3rd P5 program as the DC, making over a million dollars a year. But yeah, he sucks and those hiring him don't know crap about football. I get it.

Texas A&M: Florida State assistant strength coach Mark Hocke will join the A&M staff as head strength coach, according to TexAgs. Hocke was Georgia’s head strength coach in 2015 and previously worked at Alabama.

Oregon: USF director of player personnel David Kelly has joined the Oregon staff as assistant athletic director of football recruiting operations, and USF director of athletic performance Irele Oderinde has joined Oregon as head strength coach. Oderinde had been at USF since 2014 and played at Western Kentucky when Willie Taggart was an assistant.

Ole Miss: Wide receivers coach Jacob Peeler will make $375,000, according to Rivals. He made $228,000 at Cal last year.

Big job for UF grad Jedd Fisch:

UCLA:
New offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch has a 2-year contract. His base salary plus talent fee totals $494,000 annually, plus a signing bonus of $150,000. He also has retention bonuses of $156,000 (if still employed on Dec. 16, 2017), $150,000 (June 16, 2018) and $156,000 (Dec. 16, 2018). There is also a clause that if Jim Mora is dismissed or leaves prior to Jan. 31, 2019, Fisch’s deal is terminated 30 days after the hiring of a new head coach.

I'm embarrassed for you right now.

Why. Prove he's a bad DC. Prove it. You won't. They guy has had a top-20 D at Louisville....where Petrino is running up the score and opposing offenses are playing catch up. He straight embarrassed FSU this year. He had good defenses at UGA....leading to a pay raise at Louisville....now an SEC school just went after him. Yeah, I'm so embarrassed. Your O&B glasses are thick.

So he got fired from UGA to take a pay raise at Louisville? I'd hate to see your checkbook.
Im sure uga just afford to match it. Its kinda like nussmeier taking the Michigan job.

Again, show me where he's a bad DC. He'd be a nfl position coach if he wasn't well respected among his peers in college football. But hey, since you say so!

This is such an odd move. He probably makes close to what the UConn head coach makes as the OC at Auburn. He's been with his mentor his entire coaching career. Maybe UConn gave Edsel a blank check?

Edit: looks like he got a 3-star $350k deal. He had to be making at least that much at Auburn. Maybe he and Gus had a falling out?
