I'll have more time to work on the fence now that my long-run season finished today. Even though it was 47 degrees and freaking raining.... I destroyed my personal best half marathon time. I clocked in at 1 hour, 34 minutes, 2 seconds. During the run, I squeezed in a 10k personal best time of 42 minutes, 50 seconds. And, I also ran the furthest in a single hour which was 8.59 miles (which is exactly a 7.0 minute mile pace). :bananaburn:

:bananaburn: Wow, that's impressive! I'm running my second ever half Sunday and I'm just trying to get as close to 2 hours as I can (first was 2:13:10).

Nice Jim! Good luck at let me how you did. If I knew there were more runners, I would start a running thread. BMF is a HUGE runner. And rayfinkle could have been a Div1 runner for shorter distances (5k and below). That dude ran some truly draw dropping times from his high school days.

Good luck at let me how you did.

That will depend on my time, lol. Thankfully, the weather looks like it will be 15-20 degrees cooler than my first in 11/15 and being in downtown Sarasota should make for a flatter course than here in mountainous Polk County. :brad:

Couple of observations.... Did you use a meter to see how many gallons of water it took? Comes in handy if the salt system goes to shyt.
Most of the top fence boards aren't pressure treated, designed to be painted and or creosoted ( Great stuff to have on bare skin in the Fl summer)
There are splices used to attach ends of field fence at Tractor Supply (I'm guessing the 326 store is closest to you) That store blows the store away at 484 & I75
I'll pull wire all day but hate doing post holes... Did you run diagonal heavy wire bracing at the corners?
Our pool is 18x44 12 foot deep at deep end, We has a meter on it and was right at 30,000 gallons. We had a salt syatem on it but it went awry years ago (pool built in 94). Originally had 6' chain link fence around it but the salt ate it in no time. Now we have lowes PVC fence around it.
Was going to question the size of your filter until you said it was cartridge, We have a huge DE filter.
I hated the salt system, made the water taste like I was at Salt Springs, Brackish crap... Pools are supposed to taste like chlorine and burn your eyes :)
Salt ate the 4 citrus trees we had near pool.... As for trees near pool... DON"T DO IT, The roots will go through pool wall.

Thanks for the input Jeep.

No, we didnt use a meter to measure gallons. It's a very symmetric design and therefore easy to calculate volume. Plus the builder has a CAD drawing.

All the fence boards I bought are pressure treated pine. I am not certain about the stuff used many years ago. The 326 Tractor Supply is definitely better than 484/I75. But I actually didnt buy anything from Tractor for this project. I bought all the wire from Lowes. All the posts and fence boards from RO-MAC lumber. All the gates from Sparr Farm Supply.

The post holes werent too bad. I slowly did them over several weeks. I ran permanent lumber diagonal bracing on the corners and at any stop/start.

So far we are very happy with the salt system. It is so incredibly smart and simple. I've heard other pool owners like yourself complain about the salt, but none of us can pick up a salt taste or smell in mine. I had to just look this up, but ocean water is roughly 35,000 ppm of salt and brackish water is technically 7500-15,000 ppm of salt. My cholinator is designed to have the water at 3100-3500 ppm of salt. According the web (which tells no lies).... the human tongue cannot taste salt until the ppm is around 5000. Who knows.

I would never plant trees near the pool. For one, I dont want to mess with the leaves. For the wife, she doesnt want it harboring frogs/lizards.

Frogs and lizards will find it, Count on it! Hang a couple of Humminbird feeders around it and see if they'll come to it, May take awhile for them to find it. We have swamps around so skeeters can get quite bad, At dusk the local bat colony sends a few residents to get some supper, Neat to watch.

Our salt system I guess you could call it V 1.0, It did work but the salt required was massive at the time. If I were to revamp it I may go back but we pretty much have the chlorinator dialed in correctly, We have to add some liquid chlorine when we uncover it in the spring.

We have oaks and yes it's a major pain to keep leaves out. We covers ours after Labor day and leave it covered until the leaves are done falling, We're planning on an enclosure and expanding the deck to include a grilling/bar area, Bathroom etc..... One day :)

I remember Sparr farm supply in the old building, They have a nice place in Wildwood on 44 East of town also, I go there when I need boards over 14' and all roof tin.

Enjoy it and the upkeep isn't as bad as some let on, We have a creepy crawler vacuum that runs whenever the pump is on and walk around it with the net as needed,

So the leak guy came out. Based on how I described the problem... he bet it was at a penetration. He puts on his wetsuit and mask and after 5 minutes of snooping around.... he found it.

The main drain is a 2 part system. There is a bucket that is set in the shell. And there is a collar the sits on the bucket where the marcite abuts up to. It is a floating collar to allow for the variations in thickness of the marcite. After the marcite is put on, that collar is sealed to the bucket. Well... that sealant failed. He put on a bead of underwater epoxy, put the main drain lid back on, and was done. It took longer for him to get in and out of his wetsuit than to do the actual job. I wonder what he charged the pool builder. I gave him a 20 as a tip.

Edit: this is best schematic I can find that shows the main drain bucket and ring collar.

I see you SOBs came out of the woodwork and were drooling over my pool leak... but then scatter like cockroaches when it was no big deal and an ultra easy repair.

I prefer that food coloring be in my Red Velvet cake, and not my pool.

Actually... this is exactly how he proved it to me. With all the pool equipment completely off and the pool as still as could be, he said he could hear it underwater and I must have looked him at him like he was crazy. He took a syringe filled with some sort of black dye... squirted it near the main drain... and it all instantly sucked out through the leak.

Tore down all the old fence and built a massive bonfire. Those are 16 ft boards.

I would be lying if I said I didnt panic just a tad at how big the flames got. Thank God this post didnt turn up in the "worst things you have done" thread.
