Gators in contact with New Orleans safety Joe Foucha, teammate of Florida signee Brad Stewart
Back to the well?
Florida dipped into New Orleans in the last recruiting cycle to land 4-star cornerback Brad Stewart, just the second Louisiana recruit to sign with UF since 2001.
The Gators are now eyeing another defensive back from Stewart’s high school (McDonogh 35) for the Class of 2018. Joe Foucha, a 3-star safety, has been in contact with the Florida staff.
“First it was the defensive coordinator that hit me up, and then another coach,” Foucha told SEC Country. “They’ve hit me up on DM and a different person will follow me every other week. As days go by, I’ve been talking to different people from Florida.”
However, an offer has yet to come. Foucha holds more than 20 offers at this time, including Alabama and Florida State. He’s confident the Gators will join that mix.
“Hopefully an offer will come,” said Foucha, who added that Stewart is like a brother to him. “They told me they want to see me up at their school in person, so I’ll be setting up a day to go there. If I come up and see the place, they’ll know that I’m interested.”
The 5-foot-11, 194-pound prospect listed Arkansas, Auburn and Florida as the schools standing out and recruiting him the hardest. He plans to release a top 10 later this month.
“I’m releasing my top (group) on May 17,” Foucha said. “When I narrow it down, I’ll still be open, but those will be the schools I’m going to focus on and keep in contact with. So now I just want to get May 17 out of the way, drop the top schools and hopefully it leads to getting a smaller (group).
“The recruitment is kind of tough. There’s a lot going on for me to figure out a school, get comfortable with the coaches and visit some of the places to see how it is. Not me just hearing about it, but going to see it for myself.”
UF offers C.J. Henderson’s brother
Another prospect with a connection to Florida’s 2017 class is being recruited by the Gators. Xzavier Henderson, the younger brother of UF cornerback signee C.J. Henderon, received an offer from the staff Tuesday.
The 2020 wide receiver from Miami also holds an early offer from the hometown Hurricanes. The in-state rivals had a tight battle for C.J. Henderson that went down to the wire.
Here are some other recruits who have received offers from the Gators this week:
