But here's UF's problem = they took an "ill-founded" chance in hiring Mac and now UF is stuck.
I wish they'd have hired Kerwin Bell instead of Mac. I'm sure Kerwin could have "private" skull sessions with Spurrier on hiring his "crew", even with Steve finishing up at USCe. Then once SOS came back to UF, Steve would have no feeling to stay away from "interfering" by helping his long-time protege Bell. I bet that would put dynamic energy in our play-calling, our player development, and our score-totals and our recruiting. How furiously would Bell/Spurrier scheme to beat UT, UGA, FSU? Many say we need a return to the SOS 90's Gators, well there it is, right in front of our boosters' eyes.
I'm saying "as a pig in a poke HC-guess", Gator Great, Kerwin had more upside than Mac. The media would have been flooded with videos of Kerwin's Auburn win. Plenty of other real Gator connections to tout (Spurrier's 90's Gator highlights) that recruits would pick up on ... a totally jacked-up atmosphere so different from those "here's Mac, remember he had a part in Bama's NC". Everybody could see Mac wasn't essential to Bama's winning ways.
Still, knowing the confused "stall" that an HC upheaval puts into a program, IMO we've got to keep Mac a bit longer, all while hoping he has an "epiphony" about Nussbust and supporting cast of UF's total sciff to row. We/Mac need stronger oarsmen ... in player development, in recruiting, in practice-instruction. UF should have charismatic projectors. Like how charismatic Spurrier was. He got TV-time, even if the many media-types didn't like him, he was too much a funny-gem to pass by. We need a Spurrier-era deja vu. UF needs a "Spurrier era" deja vu. IMO that requires a Gator Great that Spurrier is already tightly bonded to. Bell would give us a "free-range" SOS adviser (with a visor). Hell, Bell may be able to talk Spurrier into being his OC? The renewed fun & excitement Bell could arrouse in Steve may just get Spurrier to jump on-board. Even with Steve as ambassador, there'd be "dinner at my house" skull sessions between the duo on who to hire, playbook design, QB development, etc, etc, = the entire UF CFB Program - built as it should be.
The "Spurrier-Bell curve would be fast upward for sure. No dumbfounded stalls allowed. What isn't working will be quickly snatched out and changed. Our Offense would climb so very fast.
UF's "style" of play would become the toast of media blabs & highlights. Talk about an AD who put blind-faith in Messedchomp and in McElwain, but couldn't put some faith in Kerwin Bell, couldn't foresee the alumni boosters' activation, couldn't see the marketability of Kerwin's own high enthusiasm for being back ... no zen--blahs there. Out of the woodwork would come UF NFL Gator Greats with positive hype. And Gator Nation would have an HC who after years of working while waiting & hoping had finally gotten his "Dream Job" (with Spurrior again would be beyond his dreams). Plus KB would never be pulled away by another school. He'd be 100% here 'til UF had to put him out to pasture. Who thinks Kerwin would be comfy with an offense reeked in the hundreds?
We've had Messedchomp as a trial, Mac as a trial. So who thinks Kerwin Bell wouldin no way be a "win-win" trial. There's no "big-wheel" HCs out there longing to coach in Gainesville. I've heard that some had turned down Foley's offers. GatorNation can be sure that Kerwin Bell is out there longing to be Gator HC. Longing to return GatorNation to a consternation to Bama, UGa, and FSU.
