Hey everyone, here is what I have this week. Here goes.

OT transfer: Jean Delancy, I don’t know why but he wants to leave Texas and attend UF. 4* OL and a former under armor guy. Welcome big fellow. He will be eligible next year. He will benefit from one more year in the S&C program before he contends for playing time. I view him as taking the place of Frumorgan.

Nesta Silvera: firms up his UM commitment as I predicted. He will not take visits. He formed a bond with Cam” Ron Davis and when Davis committed to UM that was it. He was going to visit OSU with Davis but when Davis pulled the trigger that was it. There is the thought that a bad season at UM could make him look elsewhere but I don’t see it.

Chatfield- The question is when?

Scwartz-the question is when?

Channing Tindall: he is one of my plus ones and he is quoted as saying he will visit UF prior to making a commitment. Tindall in much the same manner as Silvera in that he has bonded with another player, He (Tindall) has formed a bond with Richard Jibunor. Richard was an early recruit that I had written off but apparently I was too quick on the trigger, as both will make a return trip to UF for a game day prior to deciding. Both are rated highly and add them to Reese and you have an exceptional Linebacker class. Did I say exceptional, I meant phenomenal. I will say what I said about Miller. If your sure then what is the hold up. Much like with Silvera and Davis, Tindall and Jibunor want to go to the same school. We shall see.

If that happened, how would that effect #s. Reese is already counted and Tindall was/is a +1 so adding Jibunor to the class would not be a bad thing at all. He was an early target who favored Auburn. I expect the two to go to the same school whether it is Auburn or UF. USCE gets screwed on this one. It would however affect the class as there would be one less to take at another position. My guess is the # would come at O-line considering the transfer of Delancy. My gosh-do you not take one of the guys we have expected? Tough choices a head, but you take Tindall if he says yes no matter what. Future all conference if not AA IMO and Jibunor is not bad either.

Bama recruiting: The only SEC team in the preseason top ten is Bama. Everyone is compared to Bama, so when they have trouble in recruiting everyone else takes notice. Is there a chink in the bama mystique? I say it seems so. There is an article on rivals that addresses the situation (I am hesitant to call it a problem) but Bama is not where you would expect at this time. Could everything fall their way as Saban is considered the ultimate closer. Yes they could. You heard it here first-they won’t. Yes they will have a good class but I’m comfortable in saying that Bama will have a very down year as far as recruiting by Bama standards. Top 10 ok, top 5 I don’t see it.

UT: UF will pass UT with its next commitment in my opinion. Not that it matters, with Jones UT will at best be #2 in the east. Whatever it is, he doesn’t have it.

The California connection: It’s always hard to pull any kid across the country from the left coast. Oddly UF has one committed and another 2-3 interested. Hadley Riles who is from California has plans to visit UF. In addition I have heard a new name. Don’t know where or if it will go anywhere but add the name Brian Addison to the list of potential targets. The California athlete is rated # 2 in the Athlete category. Not an area of need but he is and would be a +1 and while USC is his home state leader it is not strong. Did I mention he is 6”5 . Red zone target at WR or FS.

More Hadley Riles: Flipping to UF will be a big decision for him. He has many friends at both places and feels close to coaches from UF and Nebraska.

Micah Parsons: anyone holding out hope for Parsons should prepare to be disappointed. I admit I was one of them. I doubt at this time that he will even visit. He has two visits scheduled for fall, OSU and Nebraska. The OSU visit is when they play Penn State, who once held his commitment. UF made his top 9 but I don’t see this one happening.

Kwantel Raines. Another +1 that will depend on an OV.

Round Up on UF: #s are becoming a problem to deal with. With the 4*Delancy transferring in it takes up one spot. I had 5 OL projected for this class already. JD would make 6 as he cannot play until this recruiting class hits campus.

UGA Recruiting: Is going well. They added Kieras Jackson to Ajulari.

SC Recruiting: checking in on our favorite ex-coach. Josh Vann commits to the Gamecocks. He was a top WR recruit in the SE.

Bama: just not hearing much from those guys. Baffling it is Yoda might say.

Final Word: No changes in my projected class as of now. More guys than spots and tough decisions ahead for Mac and Company.

Chump isn't doing much at USCe. Much like Zook his recruiting prowess was all about Florida.

Football has begun at the HS and College level. HS recruits are turning their attention to playing and FB staffs to coaching. Therefore news is a bit slow, no earth shaking commitment of note-just a trickle here and there. So we will take the slow week to look at some various items of interest.

Kyle Pitts: His team traveled to Florida last week and some locals interviewed him. One thing he said of note. Paraphrasing, we all talk and our class is almost done. He also hinted about a surprise or two. First I agree with him about the class being almost done. There will most likely be a shock or two along the wat but UF is all but done and this class will be top 5 when the ink drys.

Pitts part 2: As for a surprise, I would have ignored that as talk for the most part if I hadn’t heard it in another place or two. Let me just say, I have dug into this for several days and all I can report right now is, I expect someone in the class that no one is expecting. Will it happen? I don’t know-it is recruiting but watch who comes in for visits.

AS: My understanding is Schwartz will be making an announcement soon. I know, mixed feelings about a 4* and I get it. I heard the limited stats at WR. We know he is fast but how good is he really? So I checked with a friend of mine familiar with the program whom I trust to be honest with me. Take it FWIW, he said AS has all the potential in the world and he will either be Bob Hayes or Renaldo Nehamiah.

Chatfield: He and AS were wearing gator gloves in the win over BTW. I was told, that the staff already knows but is letting AC do it in his time in his way.

Miller: I’m still thinking he and the transfer Marlon Dunlap are the DT class this year. Miller took a visit to Bama and well nothing happened. Its Auburn or UF and I’m betting UF.

Matty Ice: Had a great game last week. Don’t underestimate the doors this guy is opening. UF is getting looks from guys who had never even though about UF. Why? They like the thought of playing with this guy. I’m not just talking about the guys from this class but next years class also.

DP: Had a great game last week. Very happy this guy is a Gator.

What next: this week UF and its staff will be in Texas. I was told that any recruiting that may have been planned for the state has pretty much been scrapped. (Damn Hurricanes). UF has many ties to Texas and well this is an opportunity the staff will miss due to circumstances of Harvey.

Before I move on to non UF stuff let me just commend the members of this board. I visit other boards and this is the best.

Other stuff:

Ohio State remains #1 in the composite rankings with 17 commits. They will finish strong and remain #1 IMO. Penn State is at 3 with former Vandy coach Franklin. However that is with 23 commits. They are all but done and are holding out hope for Raines and Parsons. I don’t expect them to get either one. UM is at 4 and Oregon is at 5. UM is trying to hold it together and the ducks could finish strong depending on some west coast talent and even finish as high as 3.

What will be the final class rankings? My prediction would be

  1. Buckeyes 2. Texas. 3. Ducks 4. UF 5. UM 6-10 in no order, ND, FSU, Clemson, Oklahoma and Penn State/Michagan.
I know, no Bama or any other SEC team top 10. There would however be several SEC teams next on the list.

Florida Gators recruiting mailbag: August 31st edition

http://www.gatorcountry.com/feature/florida-gators-recruiting-mailbag-august-31st-edition/

The Florida Gators recruiting efforts will start to gain momentum now that the Gators have started their season and players are able to watch Florida.

Most prospects have started their season already so they’re in season mode but also continuing through the recruiting process.
Gator Country’s members have a lot of questions about how the 2018 class will shake out and who are the top prospects that the Gators are still after.

We answer your questions in this week’s Florida Gators recruiting mailbag.
Well let’s dive right in to this week’s recruiting mailbag:

Georgiagator478: Is there a real shot at us landing receiver Jalen Hall in 2018? If so which receivers get pushed out I’m thinking Jalynn Williams because he hasn’t visited in a long time but I could be wrong here.

AS: Florida is recruiting Hall but right now the signs don’t point toward him picking the Gators. He does plan to visit though. Nobody is being pushed out.

LEMONHOPE: Been awhile since we hooked an offensive line for this 18 class. Richard Gouraige/William Barnes you’ve said are the closest to pop. While Nick Petit-Frere is gonna be a battle till the end. Are we still trending favorably with all three here? Do you think we see one of them pop during the fall?

AS: Florida is trending up with all three at this point. Petit-Frere is the guy that Florida has to continue to work on but the Gators have him listening. I don’t see any of the three popping this fall though.

Jonsantiago1: How many guys do you see committing in September now that campus visits can take place again?

AS: I could see one guy popping in September if he actually visits as he has said he does. But I don’t see much more than that happening.

UFsports24_7: TOS reporting Jalen Hall planning a trip to Gainesville, any truth to it? Assuming he might tag along with Matt Corral when he takes his official visit.

AS: Corral has said in the past and on our podcast that Hall would visit with him this fall and that still seems to be true. When that visit will take place is something that I haven’t heard for sure yet.

UFsports24_7: How do you feel #’s wise on defense? Seems to me we pretty much have our offense sorted out, going after the big 3 on the offensive line and then maybe another receiver or 2.

On defense, how many do we look to add to defensive line, linebackers and defensive backs?

AS: 2-3 on the defensive line, 1 more linebacker and 1-2 more defensive backs. The numbers always work themselves out so at this point, I wouldn’t focus so much on the numbers more so focus on getting certain guys.

Jackgator2: Defensive end and defensive tackle board?

AS: At defensive end you have to start with Andrew Chatfield and really the next guy on the board is newly offered defensive end Jayson Oweh. Not a big board right now.

At defensive tackle you have Miami commit Nesta Silver, Coynis Miller and Rick Sandidge.

Gatordon: Are you anticipating any big news in the foreseeable future, like Matt Corral’s hint about bringing in a 5 star?

AS: I don’t see it happening anytime soon but more after the season. Visits are going to be important for those big name targets.

Gatordon: Will the staff hold out any slots for recruits that want to take it the distance or will they not take that gamble?

AS: You always have a few plus one guys that you hold a spot for. For example if Tyson Campbell was to call you on signing day and want in, you find room for him. But to answer your question, yes they will hold a few slots for tops guys.

Emaness: Which of our current 2018/2019 commits do you think would be able to play day 1? And I don’t mean on special teams

AS: Predicting that for a 2019 kid is way too early but out of the 2018 guys there are a few guys. Jacob Copeland, Ja’Marr Chase and Dameon Pierce all could play early. Even a guy like Kyle Pitts could be ready to play next year.

Byrus: If we have another sub-par year offensively, do you think Matt Corral waivers in his commitment? I hate to be that guy, but watching those highlights make it clear that he’s the missing piece to bring home a national championship.

AS: I don’t think so, I think it’s pretty clear in his mind that he’s a guy that can turn things around and he believes that. He’s not going to let that influence his decision.

Ufgatordad: Do you think we still have the makings of brining in a fantastic defensive class overall, and will we have the best offensive class in the country when all is said and done?

AS: If certain pieces fall Florida’s way at defensive tackle and linebacker then yes Florida should have a really good defensive class. Florida already has a really good offensive class and adding offensive linemen will only help that cause out.

OklahomaGator: With the early signing date of 12/20 do you see the coaches moving on from players who have committed but don’t sign in December?

AS: No I don’t at all. Some guys aren’t going to sign because of the constant movement of coaches and what not but Florida isn’t going to stop recruiting a guy because he doesn’t sign in Decemember.

Gator_n_Bmore: How do we stand with the American Heritage kids? Any more rumblings that Campbell and Surtain are giving us a look? Is Nesta Silvera really solid to Miami? Is Chatfield a strong lean? And is Schwartz a Gator in a week or so? Also does Heritage have any underclassman on the Gator radar? Ton of questions all wrapped up in a ball of American Heritage haha Thanks AS

AS: Florida is looking good for Anthony Schwartz and Chatfield right now with both likely to visit Florida in September. Silvera says he’s solid to Miami but most expect him to still take visits to other schools including Florida. Florida will continue to recruit him. Tyson Campbell is the guy that Florida is really trying to gain momentum with and they’re hoping to get him to visit this month.

Macbgator: Is Coynis Miller, defensive tackle out of Alabama a lean to the Gators??

AS: Yes, he has Florida as his leader at this time but Auburn and Alabama will be tough competition. Miller says he plans to visit this season but he wont make a decision until after the season is over.

Mrgator: Continuing with what Byrus asked, we might still be a year away from putting the whole thing together and our schedule is very tough (as it is every year). What impact does the regular season have on recruits and what do you think is the make or break mark for the Gators to keep our recruiting momentum come December?

AS: A team’s record plays some part but it really is how you show you use that player’s position and how he fits into the system. You can’t look terrible by no means but at the end of the day, coaches create their own momentum.

RVG: Does the staff stay in contact with big name kids, even if the staff believes there is little to no chance of signing them? (Examples: Justin Fields, James Cook, Lorenzo Lingard, etc.) Do those relationships just dry up because we have someone else committed/or they have committed elsewhere? I’d be curious to know how that aspect of the relationship works.

AS: Florida always talks to guys committed elsewhere just in case something happens or changes. Just like they did with a guy like Alex Leatherwood last year. Recruiting is a relationship game so if you continue to recruit those guys, you keep hope alive somewhat.

Just curious why you're laughing? I don't find anything funny about our situation.

I've been pissed for the last several years over our football program like anybody else, but at this point I realize how pathetic it is to let it constantly bother me and have a negative effect on me. Laughing helps

(from gatorcountry):

Hey Guys

Let’s get this out of the way. The game was ugly. My posting is only to address the effect this performance or any performance will have on recruiting. Some of the following is conjecture and some is not.

2017 class. UF finished strong and got some very good players. Many of them played in the first game.

2018 Class: You want to know if the Michigan game will affect the class. Short answer is no. Most of these guys and the 19 guys have been sold on the idea of they will be a part of returning the program back to greatness. One loss , no matter how bad it looked is going to impact the class as a whole. We would be remise if we thought that other staffs will not use the poor performance last Saturday against UF.

2019: Solid, only thing that would change the class is if massive coaching turnover occurred. I don’t expect that and we are seeing good results in acquiring talent from the staff.

Worst Case: I and most likely you as well, expected UF to have a good year, Atlanta maybe. To be honest, and I watched several games with SEC teams in them and we looked like cellar dwellers.

Best Case: Nuss and staff turn it around quickly and the UM game becomes a distant memory on the path to Atlanta.

What if Nuss is fired: If the offense continues to struggle and Nuss is fired-so what. If it gets better and he stays on then fine. Matty Ice and DP and company are intelligent enough to understand this IMO. Again, I think they are sold on being the guys to return UF to greatness.

Where we at: Pretty much where we were last week. Schwartz delayed his announcement. I expect it had more to do with circumstance than the UF/UM game.

New news: If anything, this last game should not scare any recruit off. If you are good, you have to feel you can play soon. Relations and Playing time are the top two issues for most recruits. With that in mind, don’t worry about the class although a staff that looks like they can coach would help.

Irma Affect: some visits will get cancelled and that is no big deal really. UF needs to look good against UT.

I’ve Heard: A couple of unexpected visits will happen. I told you last CG to watch who visits.

I Apologize: Not a lot of new news in this report. Sorry, just not much happening right now. I expect AS is imminent. Chatfield will commit after a visit. That is two more 4* guys. After them I see an O-linemen or two popping for UF. You know who they are.

Lastly: Tyson Campbell, Micah Parsons, Channing Tindall, Richard Jibuonar, Hall, Radley Hiles Raines. Freierson. What if I told you UF will get one of those guys? Which one would you prefer?

Still Project Uf to finish with Chatfield, Gouraige, Miller, Barnes, Montilus, NPF, Scwartz and 1 or two off the list above.
