“We got to look at a lot of things,” “And yet it’s not time to hit the panic button. We’ve got a good football team. We’ll come back and do the right thing and be OK.”
Can't hit the panic button or the opposing players.

Mac has real QB's. I saw one last night that poured his guts out for his team and you can bet that when the look at his film and some of his runs to keep the sticks moving and the hits he took, he will emerge as one of the leaders. I also think Franks has all the tools to be good but the people in charge of this offense from Nuss to o-line coach are miserable.

Florida is the only major conference team to not go over 200 yards offense. That is coaching. He isn't the guy. I hope he turns it around, but I see a long season ahead.

Good points, avatara. Watching a lot of other games this weekend I saw several teams playing lots of young players and freshman QB's and they all were just fine. And plenty of coaches, like Booger eater, have come in and turned programs around in one or two seasons. Anyone still making excuses for McElwain has just got their head in the sand ( or up some other extremity).

Still no 2222? If it's not the coach what the F is it? Come in and take it like a man.

I have not read the entire thread so I apologize if this has been said before.

If I'm the head coach, or the department manager, or the CEO, I feel that success is my responsibility. Sure, some things will happen along the way that are out of my control, but it is my job to constantly assess the risks and mitigate them with the resources at my disposal. This involves planning, constant assessment, and revising the plan as needed.

The resources available to Mac at the University of Florida are way above average in my opinion. For the team to perform this way, especially on offense, leaves no excuses for Mac. He is simply not doing his job as well as his competition. I do not know how anyone could say that it is not the coach. The coach is ultimately accountable. If his players do not perform, it is his fault that they are not prepared or motivated. These boys are young. It is even the head coach's job to make sure they keep their noses clean and stay out of trouble. Sure, there will always be some bad apples. But suspending 10 players for the first game has to fall on the head coach at least to some degree.

If the program is successful, the head coach has to get a lot of credit. Usually that does not happen by accident. If they fail, the head coach has to be accountable.

Are you telling us Bama no longer wants Mac when Saban retires?

I can't help it - this was an epic thread.

It was an epic thread. My first post ever was definitely one to be remembered. I thought the Donkey was going to have an aneurism. He wanted to put me on ignore somewhere around page 5 or so.

I think many of the people reading it now think it is a current thread, but it is almost a year old. I stand by the premise. At that time the players were young and inexperienced. I showed with the gifs that the plays were there, but the players were not executing properly.

I also stated that if the players were upperclassmen with experience then I would think differently and I do.

At the current time we have the players and the experience to play better than we did in Dallas. Much better. That offensive showing was disheartening to say the least. The offense is broken. When I have time I will do a thread with the gifs of the offense. Iy always helps me to understand exactly what happened when I can look at each play individually.

So, has Mac (2222) posted anything on the board since that botched abortion we all watched in Dallas yesterday?

A combination of Gainesville ramping up for home games keeping me busy and wanting to avoid thinking about that disaster in Dallas has kept me away from the boards. However, I'm not going anywhere. You guys are stuck with me.

“We got to look at a lot of things,” “And yet it’s not time to hit the panic button. We’ve got a good football team. We’ll come back and do the right thing and be OK.”

Did you see the look on Mac's face at the end of the game? It was different than in past losses. He expected the losses against the good teams the last two years. He knew he didn't have the offensive horses to compete on the big stage.

This time, he was honestly shocked at what happened. He was in disbelief. He honestly thought the offense was ready for prime time. I think he was still in a state of shock at the press conference and didn't know what to say.

This is also a reason for hope. Mac sees the writing on the wall. He knows he has to get this fixed or he may never get another chance at running a big time program. Meyer kept his team on the plane and had a coming to Jesus moment when he realized his Gators weren't what he thought they were. Then he changed the offense just enough that it got them through the season. Our only hope is that Mac can pull off the same thing.

If the offense continues to look like it did Saturday, Mac won't survive the season and the recruiting class will fall apart.

The quote you are referring to is from previous seasons. I think Franks looked decent when they actually let him throw the ball. By the time Zaire came into the game Michigan knew we had to throw the ball and they brought everyone.

I think we now have QBs that could win with the right play calling and a couple of seconds of adequate blocking.
