Colin Kaepernick’s mom fires back after Urban Meyer’s wife criticizes QB

Shelley Meyer, the wife of Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer, took to Twitter on Sunday to share some of her thoughts on Colin Kaepernick and the free agent quarterback’s political stances. Not surprisingly, Kaepernick’s mother is one of the many people who disagree with Meyer’s opinion.

After news surfaced on Sunday that Kaepernick has filed a grievance against the NFL accusing the league’s owners of collusion, Shelley Meyer responded to a news article on Twitter by saying Kaepernick “made his choices.” Meyer also agreed with a fellow Twitter user that she would take Tim Tebow over Kaepernick any day, which led to a lot of backlash.

Many have pointed out that the Meyer family should be more sensitive to social rights issues given how many successful black athletes Urban has coached. The Meyer family is extremely close-knit and has always gone to bat for one another, but in this case Urban probably wishes his wife kept her opinion to herself.
