Weird possible subplot at UF. Nussmeier now coaching for his next gig. It's going to be hilarious if offense is suddenly better.

Don't think it will be "better", but maybe we can hope for more entertaining

I doubt the offense will improve one iota, but this is a perfect chance for NussNuts to audition for his next gig. he won;t be here next year and he won;t have Butters pulling his leash, so what if he wanted to play Zaire and Butters said no? here is his chance. he is still employed and getting paid. My guess is he will have no restrictions on playing FF, Zaire, Toney etc. at QB. Perhaps he can show some creative skills and show the world that it was Butters who would not allow us to throw it over the middle or us RB's as primary receivers out of the backfield. I doubt anything changes, but he gets 4 games with literally nothing to lose b/c his stock was at the bottom of the barrel anyway.

Everyone on here, including me, has enjoyed taking their shots at Mac. Now that he is gone, and in the way he is leaving reminds me a lot of the Tennessee departure of Fulmer. But in several ways it is different as well. In Mac's first two years, he ends up, and some will say backs into winning the SEC East, and in his third year is fired. His start at recruiting was suspect, simply by the timing of the hire, at he caught up at the last minute. The next two years have been somewhat mediocre, but still ranked. The downfall of not recovering on offense became his serious beginning of the downfall and everyone saw that. BUT, my thinking is that what is the available coaching candidates going to be thinking as this process goes forward?? One might think that by winning 2 SEC EAST division titles, and getting FIRED in the third season, is a reasonable reason for a darn good candidate NOT to come to UF. Let's face it, not many coaches get fired after winning their first two seasons!!! Just that fact by itself will eliminate some top echelon coaches, but maybe not mediocre coaches. Only those that have the confidence in their coaching abilities to overcome that AND the UF fanbase huge impatience, would consider it. The 5 miserable years between Fulmer to Jones was a huge setback to the VOLS program. I'm wondering if the MAC departure will do the same.

Mcelwain won 2 SEC 'ships because everyone else was crap...and the whole college football world knows it.....not sure if that qualifies for another power 5 gig or not. I compare it to lying about qualifications on resume and being asked about it in interview

Mac did not get fired due to his record he got fired because he had become a loose cannon at press conferences and put the University and the fan base in an uncompromising situation.

The issue with your comment is the importance you seem to place on winning the east. While a necessary step to get to the SECCG, when looked at in the context of
  1. a very weak east
  2. our getting blown out by Bama, FSU, and Michigan
  3. triple digit offensive ranking
I suspect any knowledge coach will recognize that Mac did not accomplish much.

If they don't have that... they don't have the guts, the skills, or the balls to handle this job. And this will not be a "setback" since we have ALREADY suffered a "setback" from mac's time here. Trust me, no coach will be scared away because we fired mac's fat ass. ANY coach with ANY knowledge of sports knows that mac was incompetent and in over his head.

We need to get this hire right! My son is 9 and this will be his 4th Gator coach. Think about that. We need a splash hire that is going to be here a while and bring some stability and consistency to our program.
Go Gators!!!

@GatorsScott: Jim McElwain's 34-game stint as #Gators head coach shortest for a non-interim UF coach since D.K. Stanley's 29-game stint from 1933-35.

Crazy, I was just saying something similar last weekend. My oldest will be 9 in January. He's never seen UF accomplish anything. Games are stressful to the point that they both often elect to stay at the tent with mom and throw a football with friends. It's amazing. We weren't' really very good until I was 10 in 1990, but I had just imagined they wouldn't have to deal with that type of era.
