I watched UCF last night. They didn’t play well but won - they are every opponent’s Super Bowl right now.

I watched Frost as the game was in doubt, big plays, a pick 6 against them, turnovers in the red zone, etc. Unperturbed. Engaged. Coaching his QB but in quick comments. I REALLY like his sideline presence (along with lots else.)

So, I know this is off topic, heck even just DM me or whatever, but I never heard what exactly happened on the GSMB. When I was a lurker, I enjoyed reading you guys over there.
They had some old ass software which kept breaking. Board was down repeatedly over the last year or so, often for days at a time. The guy who ran it (Russ) mysteriously disappeared and hasn't been heard from.

One time when it came back after several weeks being down, someone posted a fake letter they pretended to send to the bosses complaining about the hampster problem. (We had a hampster on a wheel jpg that we said was the GSMB main server.) The board actually worked for a few weeks then died again. Rather than fixing it or upgrading it, they put up a webpage about disruptive posters and hampsters letters and said they weren't going to bother fixing GSMB.

It was down for like 6 months, then someone noticed they weren't getting the webpage hits and ad revenue, so they bought new software, tried to kiss ass and asked us to return.

Also,

When it got bought out they really tried moderating us like crazy. Jeff Barlis single handedly started its downfall. If heisman had his feelings hurt he'd cry to Jeff, Jeff would ban posters for life without ever asking anybody else their opinion or a different side of the story.

There wasn't a rhyme or reason for how they started running things. They didn't care about the community that made that board. That's why I stopped posting there about a year or two before everyone else left.

That's also why I heavily dislike heisman (clf4l). A whiny little idiot with no friends added to its downfall

Watched that game too... impressive guy all the way around. 31 points and 600+ yards of offense and they didn't play well... that's 2 games for us

There's about 40% of the truth here.

UCF AD Danny White thinks Scott stays at UCF?
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/open-mike/os-sp-ucf-smu-mike-bianchi-1104-story.html

UCF athletics director Danny White, answering a direct question on Friday about whether he believes Scott Frost will be the coach of the Knights next year, told me, “I think he will. I think he’s very committed to being here. … I’m excited about the future of our program with Scott Frost at the helm.”

But White — making an appearance on our Open Mike radio show on FM 96.9 and AM 740 — added a crucial caveat.

“We have to do our part,” he said.

In this case, “we” means you, UCF fans.

It means if you want to keep your coach — a coach who is coveted by big-time programs like Florida and Nebraska — then you, too, have to start acting big-time. You have to start buying season tickets, showing up for games, contributing to the program.

For instance, next week’s UCF home game against UConn is probably the last time many non-season-ticket holders will be able to personally witness the highest-scoring offense in college football. The UCF-USF home game on Black Friday already is close to a sellout, which means UConn is a final chance for many UCF fans to show support for Frost and his team.

If the stadium is half-empty against UConn, then who could really blame Frost if he bolted for Florida or Nebraska? The Knights are even offering a free ticket to the UConn game for any fan who puts down a 2018 season-ticket deposit.

Creating a much bigger season-ticket base is the only way White is going to be able fight off the Power 5 invaders who likely want to poach his coach. This is the only way UCF is going to be able to offer Frost and his assistants comparable salaries to what the Gators might offer. This is the only way UCF is going to be able to build the facilities, offer the amenities and increase the recruiting and staffing budgets that Frost is going to need in order to sustain UCF as a national power.

“We have to show that we can support and resource the program as fast as Coach Frost is growing it on the field,” White said.

In other words, UCF fans cannot expect Scott Frost to commit to their program if they themselves aren’t willing to commit to their program.

I think Alvin is moderating over there now.

And the other 60%?
This was in June of 2014. The board software wasn't working properly, but it wasn't going all the way down, posts in threads were showing up out of order - making them unreadable. This wasn't the first time it had happened, and the members were grumbling. I was a mod and had emailed the admins for help, but they weren't that interested in fixing the problem. They paid absolutely no attention to the forum, which was pretty big at that time.

I think it was '78 who started a thread complaining and ripping Halifax, the company that owned the Sun. Brad then jumped in by going to the Halifax website and taking the public information for the executives and creating a fake email exchange which he then posted. The fabricated email chain showed Halifax executives going back and forth with forum members about the "hamster" being down on the website. Brad kept escalating it until he implied one of the executives had sex with the hamster or something.....don't totally remember all the details (perhaps Brad can fill us in).

I was told later by an admin on the phone that the CEO of Halifax had it set up that he got a Google alert whenever Halifax was mentioned on the internet. As a result, he ended up seeing that thread and demanded the entire forum be shut down. Within a day of Brad's posts, the website was shut down with a notice on the page that said it was being shuttered for "disruptive posters" and would not re-open, and they would focus their efforts on social media. Yes, an income-starved newspaper company shut down a bustling forum that had been there for 15+ years because of a fake email exchange involving a hamster.

Needless to say, thousands of members were in shock and had no idea where to go. Unbeknownst to anyone, I had already been creating a new forum in the week leading up the shutdown - not because I was planning a competing forum, but because I thought the board was going to be down for a while for software updates and I wanted to give people a place to go. After all, the season was about to start. Myself, law, and '78 had some conversations about this in a group we had created on Facebook right after the shutdown.

I had the new forum up within two days of the shutdown, and immediately got around 200 members to head over in the first couple of weeks. Obviously, we've continued to grow from there.

It was about eleven weeks later (near the middle of September - not six months like law said) that the GSMB suddenly and unexpectedly re-opened with new software. Had they left the message that they were down temporarily while they were updating the software we may have waited and the GCMB wouldn't exist, but they were too dumb for that. I was very concerned that my new venture might be sunk while everyone returned there, but I was worried for nothing - members had no intention of going back and it's been a ghost town ever since.

Shortly after the GSMB re-opened, they banned any mention of Gatorchatter and the word "chatter" was automatically replaced with the word "sports", further infuriating their former members. With the most recent re-launch, they have stopped doing that and links to this board can be made over there. I have actually spoken to the GSMB board admin, Arnold, on the phone. Very nice guy.

You can bet he would be his QB.

Not if Corral keeps his commitment. Toney is electric with the ball, but he's not all that accurate a passer. His completion % in highschool was mostly because he rarely threw and only threw when receivers were wide open deep down the field because the other team was so worried about Toney running. You people that keep calling for Toney to be the starting QB at UF need your heads examined, unless of course you want us to go to a full blown triple option offense where we never throw the ball...
