Pressure to win is far too great at UF vs. UN? Last I heard, we're both firing our coach after three years of crap. They have no less tolerance for losing. After all, most of their fan base remembers being a powerhouse and wants it back.

Only those well over 40. Nebraska hasn't had a relevant season since 2001. It's slowing sinking in that they will never be a powerhouse again.

What many people don't remember about Nebraska when they were good is that, despite his upright and wholesome image, Tom Osborne ran a program full of drug abusing women beaters. He was the ultimate enabler who consistently turned a blind eye to the thugs he had on his team. During his career as a defensive lineman at Nebraska from 1991 to 1995, Christian Peter was arrested eight times, convicted four times and accused of assaulting four women. He didn't miss a game. And it took Lawrence Phillips ripping out the hair of a Nebraska volleyball player to finally get him kicked off the team after several off field run ins. And the amount of steroids used by the 1990's Nebraska teams would make the East Germany Women's Olympic team blush.

I'm glad Nebraska is finally paying for the sins of their past. They deserve it.

Pretty sure they were stealing bovine steroids from their ag dept. Surprised they haven't grown hooves in their later years.

Except he wasn't kicked off the team...he was suspended for a couple of games.

"on September 10, 1995, Phillips broke into backup quarterback Scott Frost's apartment by climbing the outside of the building to the third floor and entering through some sliding doors. He then assaulted basketball player Kate McEwen. Phillips dragged McEwen out of the apartment by the hair and down three flights of stairs before smashing her head into a mailbox. Phillips was subsequently arrested and eventually suspended by head coach Tom Osborne. The case became a source of controversy and media attention, with the perception arising that Osborne was coddling a star player by not kicking Phillips off the team permanently."

As we all know he was back on the team in the regular season and put a hurting on UF in the NC game

Right you are. And it was a women's basketball not volleyball player as I had stated. And Frost actually was there and was responsible for getting Phillips off of that girl albeit to late too keep her from getting hurt pretty badly. I sure didn't shed any tears for Phillips after he went to prison for assault with a deadly weapon, killed his cellmate and then eventually killed himself.

Osborne was the definition of a hypocrite.

It sure got worse when they fired Bo Pelini. Probably better off if they kept him.

I recall this well. Osborne was just trying to help the kid out...which just so happened to coincide with him being available in the NC game against us. What a coincidence. :faint:

It's never a good idea to keep a bad coach, even though hiring another bad coach is a possibility.

Oh yeah people act like he was some sort of model coach/mentor when he was a cheating and immoral *******. And their fans aren't much better...talk about class...

Bruce Feldman of ESPN:
The worst and most classless bumper sticker ever came from the Midwest. In 1988, Colorado star quarterback, Sal Aunese, was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Aunesse died in the middle of the 1989 season. An idiot Nebraska fan printed bumper stickers that said, "Go Big Red; Sal is Dead." I know it was the work of one idiot but to this day I always pulled for the Buffaloes when they face Nebraska.

"Sal is dead, go Big Red" painted on I-70? How about the "CU in hell Sal" signs?

You sure it wasn't his brother Carl? Well, Carl was a bad coach at FAU, Bo is just a head case who went postal on quite a few people while at Nebraska.

Agree with Ox, I've said all along that I thought Frost would be the main target, then after the Sticklin press conference it seemed that much more likely when he more or less told the dumbass press that he's not hiring Mullen, even though they all assumed that's who it would (and should) be. Then when Frost didn't deny he was leaving I knew it was a done deal.

The only issue is that it could easily be more than 2 teams in the bidding. That's why I was actually kind of hoping UCF might blow that last game. I do think one thing the Husker got right is as crazy as it seems, folks will be making 6 million plus dollar offers to a coach with very limited experience.

You just know Mac could rip through that corn on the cob like a chainsaw tearing through balsa wood.

There it is, the best quote I've ever seen on this board, or any other Gator board. Go ahead and shut this place down Ox, we'll never be able to top that line! :bwahaha:

Divits also had the funniest post I've ever seen on the GSMB about Miami's new locker room facilities. Unfortunately it was lost to history in board changeovers.

I got the impression Stricklin had an ace up his sleeve at his presser. I'm assuming that's why you say that. I hope you're right and it's Frost.
Been thinking about this and as much as I wish it were true I think it unlikely. First I don't think they knew they had a way out until Mac made the death threat claims. Giving them very little time to negotiate with anybody. Second, if it was someone unemployed (Stoops/Kelly) the announcement would be out. But maybe the UAA was planning on canning Mac after the season regardless of the buyout. Then they could have been in background talks with somebody at the beginning of the season. Would that have been Frost? Eh I don't know. He wasn't that hot of a prospect at the beginning of the season. If he were 5-3 at this point it would look like a bad ace-in-the-hole. I'm guessing they didn't start to really hit the phones until last week.

One of the rumors on 247 is they were looking after the LSU loss.
