If they were gauging interest and he was interested, Riley would be thumbs out on the highway right now. Why would they give us the ability to be the only one seriously courting him?

So either he's not interested, or Nebraska is exactly what everyone says about them: classy and old school. They ain't shopping with a full cart.
I believe their AD has made comments about not firing coaches mid season so Riley will be there until the last game. You can't possibly believe that Nebraska is just sitting on their hands and haven't reached out to Frost and his agent. Frost knows right now that he can choose between the 2...it doesn't matter if Florida technically is the only job open...he knows he can have the Nebraska job if he wants it.

What does back channel mean to you though? It's literally just u may be interested? Yeah? Cool. How far can you take that without being incredibly rude to your hired and staffed coaches.

Negotiations don't start til Riley is gone. And they are giving us a two week head start for what? Like I said the longer Nebraska waits the more it looks like Uf is sitting very pretty with Frost

Texas had a deal with Herman before they fired Strong. They weren't going to fire Strong if they didn't have that deal... so why do you think another school can't do the same thing?

I believe the actual quote you are referencing also had in there that they hadn't decided if they were going to fire their coach and would have to wait till the end of the season. I am too lazy to go verify ... it is linked on the thread from the girl who is stengy with her pics.

Would you expect him to say anything else?

Yeah? Especially if you are on planes flying around talking with people. It is kinda creepy how public they are being yet not saying the coach is a goner after season.
I have no problem firing a guy midseason like we do but apparently they do. If you aren't going to publicly fire him then you shouldn't be out trying to recruit a new coach. However, if they are and the guy still isn't publicly fired then i would not expect them to make any statement saying he is not going to be the coach there...because well...that's firing the guy publicly

I think that's why a few of us feel Stricklin already had this deal done before he fired Mac. There was just something about that presser that gave me, and I wasn't the only one, a feeling he had an ace up his sleeve already.

I wasn't agreeing or disagreeing with you ... was just adding more context to what you said. UN AD is trying to have his cake and eat it too ... sure hope that blows up on them in the end. I wouldn't want to work for a place that acts that way and it would be one of the first things I question them about if I ever had a sit down with them.

I don't get this though? I don't see any 'deal being done' without a face to face. Granted, I am totally clueless about how this stuff between agents/proxies goes down ... but millions of $$$ being dealed to a person without ever sitting down with them? My point is ... not sure 'deal done' is the best wording. Maybe ... has enthusiastic options ready to explore when the moment comes?

Does anyone on this message board know for certain that sit down meeting hasn't already occurred?

I got that feeling also and hope it is the case... we just won't know until early December.

I am pretty sure that would be easy to know if it happened. I am sure Stricklin and others are being closely monitored right now. Right?

Remember, I'm talking about BEFORE Mac was fired. Before people were watching so closely.

I don't know ... that is a reach imo. But I am still trying to get through the Zook, Muschamp and Butters circus show by Foley. Props to Stricklin if he actually was prepared for it that far in advance. Would be a bit of a Nostrodamus (no clue how to spell that chit ... sound it out) since Frost really didn't come strong onto the scene this year as far as being an option for a top school to hire.

To guys like Stricklin, and any AD that wants to be taken seriously, Frost wasn't a behind the scenes guy. Just like Norvell. Every AD who isn't having back to back to back NCs has a list of up and comers and is watching them closely. Being AD at a P5 school isn't like being the hardware manager in Lowes. It isn't their job to know the part # and inventory of every screw, nut and bolt. But it is their job to know the phone # of the ones everybody keeps asking about.

Here come Swonkey with another swipe at my cannabis use admission.

Hmmm. Hard to buy that. It is a very nice and clean paragraph that makes a lot of sense but I think there is a lot more to that if you peel the layers of that onion. At what point did Frost become 'approachable'? I would think it would have to be this season and not last season. Was it in September during the hurricanes and games being cancelled? October? I just believe, there are legalities that have to be worked through before an AD can sit down with another coach in that manner. Again ... not saying he hasn't done his homework ... just think 'deal' and 'done' are carelessly used in this situation.

Not following the Swonkey mary J comment.

When I use "loose" metaphors to make a point, he likes to say my reasoning is skewed by my cannabis use. If you ever admit to breaking the law in any way around Swonkey, he'll use it against you for ever and ever amen.
