Kids will transfer, they always do. Frankly if you are 3rd string on this team (and not a true freshman), you need to be flushed anyway.

Top 10 is about the minimum that is acceptable in a slow year, I expect that to be what we land. May be better though because we may have 8 or 9 EEs, some of which count back (around 7 if my math is right) so we should be able to take 32 ish in this class total.

The next class will likely be the same so we should be almost completely reloaded by year 3.

I don't know if that holds true anymore. We've got 4 in state programs on top of us right now. We've never had more than 2 before.
Being SEC always matters. UCF and USF will never really be ahead of any of the P5 teams. Most of those kids want to be on network television and don't want to play Connecticut and Tulsa. They want to win championships vs. Bammer and Ugly. Our biggest threats for the top kids remains Bammer, Ugly, Clowntown, and now scUM.

Arkansas' starting QB was arrested for DUI last night. Maybe they're trying to be the new Florida?

USF and UCF has never and will never be above UF that's impossible. Miami will fall back down to earth soon enough it's Mark Richt give him time. Don't forget he came in hot at UGAy won an SEC championship early on and did absolutely nothing for the next decade plus.

Yes but it waters down some of our 2's and 3's and at an SEC level of play you'd better have some damned good quality at 2 & 3. Right now USF and UCF are not that far behind UF in quality scholly for scholly....in fact they may not be behind at all.

No they're not on a year to year basis but again when they're up they will skin some recruits who would be good quality 2's and 3's as well as developmental guys. Frankly we have some soft ass players and I would gladly trade them for a handful of guys playing on those teams....

We are not on our way to being Arky. A good coach can raise UF to Arky's level in two years easy. Right now, Arkansas would whip UF's butt. :lol2: :stirpot:

Well, I didn't count them all but I did a quick look at their last three classes. I see a total of 4 bluechippers (all low 4 star) and about half and half 3 stars vs 2 stars. Still not close.

Here is the link if you have more time than me.

I think you certainly have made some valid points in this thread. I'm not sure if we're John L/Arkansas bad (they did beat the hell out of us last year, btw). Anyone expecting next year's team to win (and even compete) for any sort of "championship" is nuts (we will probably be 3rd or 4th behind UGA & Missouri...and maybe UK in the East).

BUT, I think you're selling our talent a little short (a little). I think we will find a solid 22 starters (11 on each side)....and as you've alluded, the problem is depth. I think our top 22 will be good enough to put us in the 5-8 range in the SEC. If we can build some depth behind those 22 we should be able to get to 7, possibly 8 wins next year.

And if this new staff can actually coach.....we could be in for a surprise in year 2.

As far as taking 3 years, I have no problem w/ that....IF we see signs of improvement - which is something we never saw w/ Butters and his inept staff.

Law is spot on that we could land a huge class this year.....and w/ the 8 or 9 EE's. Those EE's will add some quality depth (and a couple of starters - Corral?). I'd like to get back some of the Credit Card 9 - namely the LB's.

In the age of graduate transfers you can rebuild a roster even quicker than in the past. UF signs 25 this year, adds say 3 regular transfers and 5 graduate transfers then UF has add 33 players in one year, 30 of whom can play right away.

I think you all are forgetting how bad our competition is. If we had one iota of competency on the coaching staff this year we may have had only one loss. Next year it's the same. Only Georgia is a challenge, arguments can be made for LSU and FSU. Nine wins seem reasonable. Are we losing anybody significant this year? The team sucks in many ways but the teams we play are somehow just as bad.

A good coach may not have us playing for championships right away, but we'll at least be competitive in games. Beating the teams we should, competing with the SEC teams.

Crete - Aside from your Bert love I like your posts. This thread is a little ridiculous. Last year‘s receuiting class was pretty damn good. Not quite at Florida standards but pretty damn good. Only one defection from the current class and if we can get a top-flight coach in this year we can not only salvage this class but we can also make it even better. The biggest problem that we will have for next year is a really small senior class And a really weak, weak, weak junior class.

If we have an exciting offense next year, that means we will have three consecutive good to great classes.

Ebb and flow man ... ebb and flow. Huge difference between Arky and Fla. Arky will only have a couple years here and there where they make a big challenge for contention. Florida will only have a few years where they suck. Location location location. How did we ever get to where we are today after Meyer's first 3 years? Ebb and flow, man ... ebb and flow. With the right hire, and a purge of the stench ... we about to flow again.

So you see no problems with numbers? Remember we may lose what 10 players from the federal credit fraud scandal alone...And I get what everybody is saying about this being "Florida".....except it's not....and hasn't been for the last 8 years...There are 4 teams better than us in this state alone right now and if Frost stays at UCF he's only going to take a bigger bite out of some of the 3 and 4 stars in state...Oh, and as much as I never want Charlie Strong to be our coach he is a damned good recruiter especially where we are weakest, on defense...It's is my opinion that NO other coach in UF history would have been at such great odds as whoever gets to try to straighten this turd out...
