Yeah, if that was intended to make me feel any better.....it didn't. When are we going to be done with guys like Riles, Moral Stephens, Buchanon, Clark and such... Those guys have been here for about 7 years and they're worse than when they got here..:headslap:

Well, there is a new coaching staff coming in!! :D

In all seriousness, I agree w/ you that we could be in trouble w/ numbers. I said earlier, I think out top 22 (11 on each side) will be solid (in the top 5-8 in the SEC). But after that? Yes, that's where there's problems. And we know injuries will happen (we're missing 5 starters on both sides of the ball right now!). We just have to hope for: 1) a big signing class 2) 8-9 EE's 3) return of some of the CC 9 4) good coaching. I know it's a lot to ask, but it's not unreasonable. We could have upwards of 80 scholarship players next year.

Like I said before if we get someone(thinking Kelly) who can win 8 games and bring in a top 10 class in their first year I'll be pleased. Interesting thought crossed my mind though if we go to a system with an up tempo offense were gonna need a whole lot more bodies up front on both LOS. Wonder if depth there would make a coach like Frost or Kelly change up their system?

I think QB will be more of a factor in changing the system than LOS players. We'll have bodies next year (I'd love to get Telfort back), but they need to toughen up (a lot!). On D, I think our LOS is fine, especially w/ the 3 true freshman getting PT this year. We're on track to sign 4-5 OL's....but no DT's so far. Hopefully the new coach generates some excitement among recruits and we land a couple of DTs and get all the OL's we're expected to sign (and Corral!).

I thought it was a pretty solid review and the worst case scenario.

You know players getting worse while at UF is why UF is getting a new staff. Hopefully some players will respond to new coaching.

Makes me wonder if Toney would get a look at QB? With his feet and simple reads I'll bet he could really keep a defense off balance...Of course if Corral stays committed he could beat out the rest of the guys on the roster and keep Toney at WR.

I'm sure the last 2 knuckleheads had a lot to do with guys not progressing but lets not kid ourselves here about talent levels...This may be the least talented team I've seen in Gator uniforms since the late 70's.

I'd rather Toney stay at WR, but he would be an interesting prospect at QB. One of Kelly's Oregon QB's (Masoli) was 5'11.

I hate to write off Franks, but he has shown absolutely nothing. In fact, he appears to be uncoachable - he keeps taking sacks when he should have thrown the ball away (I'm no fan of Nussmeir, but I can't imagine after doing that 10 times this year he wouldn't have been coached not to do it....and he keeps doing it. He's uncoachable). Jake Allen is still too new to write off, he has a history of playing w/ teams where he was the only white kid on the team - i.e. he's played some spread offense. And we have no clue how Corral will look in this offense, but Kelly knows how to adjust the offense to the QB (he did it in the NFL). But we still need to sign Corral before we can count him. I think there's enough options to have a productive offense.....and Corral could be the next big-time UF QB. Who knows...

Who knows...

I agree 100% with the part I quoted. SOS came in and took a 5th string QB who was suspended for gambling and being dumb enough to place bets via Athens Ga. and turned him into a two time SEC offensive player of the year. So "Who knows ..." what a competent coach will do with the QB prospects UF has is great summary.

You make some great points,Crete, including making the argument for taking Frost over Kelly; ie, if Frost is recruiting for us, he's not recruiting for UCF. But you didn't say anything about the impact of the (potentially) incoming class. If everybody or just about everyone who's committed sticks, especially Corral, then we will have quality starters at almost every position on offense, with some quality depth at the WR and RB positions. I'm assuming Corral starts next year, but even if he lives up to his ranking, he'll still be a fr QB. If we bring in the 5 offensive linemen that we've had projected to us at times, I think we might be looking good as an offense in year 2. Assuming Eddie and Johnny stay, special teams should be okay next year with some better coaching. Not sure where we may stand in year 2 in that regard. As for the defense, we've got some decent young players in the secondary, 2 promising young defensive tackles in Conliffe and Slayton, some currently undersized defensive ends, and 3 undersized linebackers with heart. This, I think, is where the problem you describe really hits home. If this next coach can save the class we have coming in, and add some starting linebackers and linemen to it, I think we can be really good in year 2. If the incoming coach can't do these things, then we're going to be stuck in mediocrity for the next several years.

Defense is a huge concern but IF we can find a QB for a Kelly/Frost offense maybe we can try and trade scores to win games....Not my favorite kind of football but it would be a nice change of pace and maybe buy our new coaches a year or 2 to get the defense back to Florida standards of the past...let's keep our fingers crossed because I really don't want to be sitting here typing this same thing 3 years from now....
