The UT coaching candidates thread

Maybe he does end up in Knoxville but there are several reasons I can't fathom that. He's never been a college head coach and what little time he did spend in that genre was decades ago. It's not like he's Spurrier...the alumnus returning to be the rescuing hero. It doesn't seem that the UT connection is particularly strong.

He has a cushy, well paying job that allows him to be a celebrity without any pressure. If he did hanker to return to coaching there are several NFL teams that would pay him well just to coach....not recruit and speak to booster clubs. And, by the way, aside from his Super Bowl win with another coach's roster, he doesn't have the most glowing head coach resume (95--81).

But I suppose stranger things have happened.

Cant you say the same about Kelly? He has a cushy well paying job too. No Gruden wasn't a flashy college coach., but the rest is about the same except Kelly is NOT one to ham it up with boosters and alumni.

All these many years of the pitiful "Gruden to Tennersee" stories have finally convinced Webster's dictionary to add the word "grumor" .

Gruden is nationally known for his broadcasting gig and has been doing it for almost a decade. Kelly is brand new to the industry and is definitely not making Gruden money as a broadcaster. I don't think he plans to make a career in the media business.

There are plenty of other facts that make it clear that the two men are not "about the same" when it comes to their experience related to college coaching.

Not even close.

Kelly is a part time analyst making chump change compared to what he makes as a coach. He was a coach just a year ago and is most known for his success and innovation as a College HC. He has let it known that his plans are to return to coaching college and even discussed criteria he would be looking for.

Gruden is most well known as a Sports Analyst Personality, is the highest paid individual in his profession making a reported 6.5 million a year, last coached in any capacity in 2008 and has never been a college HC or a college recruiter. As a coach, he is exclusively known as an NFL coach and has never once shown any interest in taking a position as a college HC.

But other than that their situations are identical :shakehead:

Concerning the speculation that something in the water in TN is responsible for the wide-spread dose of "dumbassitis" that infects their ****t-for- brains fan base: After many years of protracted observation, I've concluded that the problem lies not in their drinking water but in their exceptionally shallow gene pool. Hence the truism: You can't fix stupidity, especially in Tennessee.

ONE NATION, EASTERN DIVISIONAL

That's funny. His best is the Butch Jones song. It was hilarious then and even better now after the dumpster fire he was.
