Foley knew beforenhe left what those two were going to say.

That was all a show to get us to accept Zook, his ole buddy, the guy he wanted all along.

There was some of that involved with this search too though I believe the pursuit of Frost then Chip was in earnest. The other banes were not. Stricklin wanted Cousin Eddie fromnthe beginning.

My recollection was Stoops seriously considered the deal, at least the first time. Shanahan really didn't.

Foley's problem is he thought he could hire Billy Donovan every time, an up and coming energetic diamond in the rough. Looks like he may have done it twice in basketball but whiffed 3 times in football.

Considering we're coming from having a S&C coach that looked like a strand of spaghetti, a worm needing the hook and Nuss anguishing in 3rd and long Hell... pretty confident Mullen will cobble up something better than that

I remember you guys saying this last year, and the year before, and the year before.

Not sure what monkey claimed we ever had a top notch staff under McElwain, but I sincerely hope they didn’t drive afterward. I always felt that JM himself was decent. But he surrounded himself with absolute garbage, from Nuss to Nord to Kent to Callahan, on and on. Just terrible. We can debate his budget allowance, but those guys weren’t even good by their clearance price standards.

I’ll say this, the moment Gonzalez joined, our staff became better than anything recently. He was the primary recruiter forguys like Harvin, Haden, Carl Moore(big catch regardless of his career here), etc. Not a huge fan of Grantham(would rather him grab Diaz from um), but if nothing else, we now have 4 assistants from P5 teams, 3 SEC. So they’ve at least been engaged with prospects we’re also recruiting and areas we must succeed in. The days of raiding Boca for position coaches are over. If you give Mullen no other credit, he definitely understands that won’t work.

Keep in mind one of the articles from Colorado that surfaced during JM’s firing about him leaving behind an entire support cast that had helped him turn CSU around. Then look at the constant staff turnover(people leaving) in his brief stint here. People generally didn’t like him and felt unappreciated. In contrast, DM has 3 guys looking to follow him here, several who have a long history with him. They obviously like working for/with him so I feel like we’ll have a lot more continuity under Mullen, which we desperately need.

I will say that the fact Mullins isn't bringing any OCs that just got fired from their last two jobs is a big improvement. Hevesy and Bill G are solid, no doubt.

That being said there were literally saying McElstain and Nusschuml were so great it was like cheating having those two together and that Callahan was the best recruiter in the state and a likely future HC.

Perhaps paying Mullen some $6 million per year will cause his performance to rise to that level. One can hope, right??
That isnt an incredibly high salary. He was probably getting that matched at Cowbell if he wanted to stay.

Herman got hired for 5.3m last year and yet there are many more big schools hunting for a HBC this year, big wage pressures.

One thing I don’t understand is I thought Stricklin said in the presser after uga that he was hoping to get away from the huge buyouts. Then We announce that Mullen has a $12M buyout. So it’s possible in 3 years when we fire Mullen we’ll pay him $12M, still be paying Butters and be forced to hire Nord as out HC for $250k per year because that’s all we can afford.

For those not in favor of Mullen's hiring do you think that Mullen believes 8--10 wins a year without championships will be acceptable at Florida? Do you believe that Mullen is aware (or not) that being paid like one of the top 5 coaches in the country comes with expectation to win titles? Or is he thinking that his relationship with Stricklin provides cover and he'll be ok as long as the Gators are more competitive than previous years?
no, but I don't like the $12 million buyout. I'd be fine with the hire if we could of had a buyout that went down like $4 million each year.

People still want Chip Kelly after he played Florida like a fiddle? He was never interested in coming here and I have serious doubts in the "Florida never offered me" BS.
