I've never put much credence on a non binding verbal commitment but at least it kind of shows which way the wind is blowing. I hope DM can save and/or improve this class but I'm not sold on his ability to sell his vision to anyone.

I'm happier watching FSphew and Utoothless twist in coaching limbo!

I guess I'm just baffled at ANY offensive player that was gung-ho with Butters and Nuss pulling out now that they are gone. It was the worst offense in the country and they just can't stand not being a part of it?

Or. He could stay a 4*. Not gonna worry about someone who can’t commit for another 13 months

If a woman tells you that she is going to marry you 13 months from now, are you sticking around? Much less a 17 year old kid. These kids know commitment until they blow their load and then get dressed and walk away.

I wouldn't worry about guys that decide not to come here in 2019 until February of 2019. We need to improve this team's roster next year.

Here’s the good news. Dan Mullen was responsible for recruiting John Brantley, Tebow, and Cam Newton While he was here. Gonzalez was the recruiting coordinator at UF during our glory years under Urban Meyer.

I don’t understand this sentiment. This was the exact same problem that we had with Mac. You don’t put off next year’s class for this year’s class. You work them simultaneously. And you should be building a pipeline with the sophomore class.

Saying that we should not focus on the junior class would be devastating for next year’s class. This is why Mac was running around every January desperately trying to shore up the class.

We can't get worked up on a message board for guys that won't be in the fold until 2019. These are 16-17 year old kids. I work with them every day. They change their minds a lot. If Mullen gets it done on the field this year then they will come back. If not, they were not likely to come anyways. If these guys wanted so badly to be a part of the Mac and Nuss sh itshow and are hurt over that tent folding, I'm not sure what to think about that recruit. Are they highly talented recruits wanting going somewhere with lowered expectations?

I agree but your going to have a few de commit as well as some committing. It will be this new staffs job to revisit these guys and see if they can pull them back in. We wont win them all.

Timing is everything. Seems interesting that once Foley was out Mullen slid right in

But he was our 4th choice. I guess if we had better luck he'd still be waiting? Seems like a huge stretch that he was waiting for one job. Most great coaches go make a name for themselves then if "that" job opens up. Great.

This still doesn't explain staying in Starkville for 9 freaking years.

I'll give you Kelly and Frost. But are you implying that the Gundy rumors were correct? Surely you don't believe that he'd entertain the vols and meet with them during a complete mutiny in Knoxville and national backlash of the admin, but simply told UF no as was reported.

And the 9 years thing, though just a theory, was already answered. He likely had interest in UF but not working for Foley.

Huh? He was our back up back up plan. Would he stay there forever then? That's pretty weak. Complacent. Hard to argue otherwise.

You said 4th choice. I'm saying he was clearly 3rd.

And technically that's disputed since we reportedly contacted DM on Friday, but were planning to meet with Frost on Sat or Sun. We were looking at several options simultaneously, so the order is likely somewhat unknown. In any event, he was 3rd at most which was my point.

And no, not forever. But he was likely waiting for the right move. Especially with a family, I'm not sure how being patient as opposed to bouncing all over is deemed a horrible thing.

It's funny how a guy like Taggart wracking up losing seasons in 3 year tranches at 3 separate programs(and apparently looking to move again) is seen as good. But someone sticking it out at one of the toughest P5 gigs waiting for the right fit is bad.

There is really only a very small, vwry vocal segment of the population who thinks Taggart is good.

I will say this, Mullins wanted this job very much, he always has. You could see it in his expressions every time we hired and took someone else. He was bitter about it. Maybe they will drive him.

He also COULD have really punked us, demanded 7 or 8 mil knowing we were over a barrel.

Maybe he can pull it off again, winning with solid D and ST, and just enough O. Hevesy and Billy G are solid assistants who know how to get it done. Hopefully we can get the recruiting going bc this roster is ugly right now.
