But wouldn’t it really be peculiar if FSU and A&M just switch coaches?

This would be great for him. Shocked that Toothless is the only P5 to interview him. Thought he would be the ASU target.

My initial thought before clicking the link was ain’t happening, why would he? After reading how he has no offset to his buyout, I guess it’s possible if he’s looking to pad his bank account but I still think it’s unlikely. I also think he’d be a short timer there and would jump to a bigger job 1st chance possible.

Az state in one of the strangest moves of the off season is set to hire Herm Edwards who hasn't coached since 2008. I have no idea what they are thinking. Sumlin should have been a no brainer, but the AD said he wanted the current OC and DC to remain. More head scratching moves.

That was strange. I heard a lot of people have been trying to talk sense Into them the last week.

If he wants to coach and build something UCF is almost perfect. They are on the upswing, with him taking a low salary they can afford more staff or other things to improve. It could become a big thing with the right leader and support.

My understanding of the backstory there is that the AD for ‘Zona State used to be Herm’s agent and he’s taking care of Herm with this deal.

Maybe but I view it differently. UCF just ran the table so if he doesn’t keep winning conference championships and having 12-0 or 11-1 seasons routinely the fans will get aggravated and Sumlin will have that much more incentive to leave. Plus it’s difgucul going from making $5m per year (or whatever TAM was paying him), to making $3m per year. It’ll work short term b/c of the buyout he got but long term he’ll want much more. Until UCF gets into a P5 conference, they’ll always be at a financial disadvantage when it comes to paying coaches.

But he will be making 5M per year, from TAM. And as I always insist there are things other than money in play. See say Kelly or Frost for recent examples. Do you think SOS would go to UT for say 20M per year? I don't.

I already acknowledged that he is getting buyout money...as I already said, at some point in the near future, the buyout $ in addition to the lower salary from UCF becomes less than what he would get at a bigger, better job. Hence my comment that he likely would be a short termer if for no other reason than economics. He’s also not building UCF up. He’s following a guy who went 12-0 and left for a bigger job. UCF also had quite a bit of success not too long ago before the winless season a few years back. Lastly, the SOS example isn’t comparable...UT is one of SOS’s all mater’s biggest rivals. Sumlin’s a Purdue grad, no rivalry between those 2 schools.
