ARTICLE: http://www.gatorsports.com/2017/12/floridas-journey-football-coaching-hire/

I'm over the fact that we ended up with Mullen. He wasn't my first pick, but he was far from the last (Strong, Kiffin, Meyer, and many others way lower on the list than Mullen).

I'm over the fact that there are a bunch of sold-out members of the media who are selling us the company line (Dooley especially included).

I'm over the fact that Foley is still hovering over our program like a giant vampire bat, blotting out any sunshine that might think about coming our way.

What I am not over is the fact that our AD doesn't have the stomach to be a high school AD. Dooley's article specifically states (and makes it sound like he has the inside line (although that is reasonably doubtful)) that Stricklin believed that Mullen was the best choice and did not act on that belief due to the queasiness in his stomach about the pain that it might cause MSU. He specifically said that it would have been a one man race from the get go, but for the feeling that the thought of taking Mullen from MSU gave him.

Now, I don't want this thread to argue Mullen's merits. In fact, for the sake of this thread, let us assume that Mullen was head and shoulders above any other candidate. What I learned from Dooley's article is 1 of 2 things.

1) Dooley is a windbag who takes artistic license with what he knows. He made up a story that he thought sounded cool but unknowingly threw the man that he so desires to brown-nose and make look good under the bus by insinuating that he would not make the best decision for his employer, the entity that he owes a legal duty to, the entity that pays his hefty paycheck, because of the feeling of queasiness that looking out for UF (and getting MSUs coach) gave him

OR

2) Stricklin refused to make the best decision for his employer, the entity that he owes a legal duty to, the entity that pays his hefty paycheck, because of the feeling of queasiness that looking out for UF (and getting MSUs coach) gave him

I really hope it is the former. If it is the latter, Stricklin should be let go immediately. Having feelings of loyalty to his alma mater and his former employer are OK. Everyone would "feel" something. However, acting on those feelings (or in this case failing to act due to those feelings) is completely unprofessional and has no place outside of places like FSU and UT. If it is in fact true and he let something like that slip to a member of the media, I believe there are immediate questions of competency. How does he say something like this to Dooley (or any media member) and think that it is alright for that to be public info?

So, Mullen may have been the best choice or not (probably not). But, the fact is, it appears our AD believed wholeheartedly that he was the best choice and refused to do anything about it because he was QUEASY. That's the word he used.......QUEASY. I'll leave it at that.

I've read the article and to me it reads like Dooley being a mouthpiece to the UAA and is spinning this to sound like Mullen was the 1st choice all along to combat some of the narrative that he was 3rd or 4th at best.

I hope that's the case.

But Strick did act in the best interest of the university, if that's how he felt, and took Mullen away from his alma mater. I mean we took the best coach they've ever had, all of the best assistant coaches on the staff and may end up taking some of their recruits as well. I'd say he stomached that QUEASY feeling and did what he felt was best for UF.

If you read (and believe) the article, that is not what he did. He tried to find a suitable alternative first, even though he would not have done that if it was anyone other than MSU.

He risked losing Mullen to other schools. He risked offending Mullen. He risked not getting HIS #1. Now I am not saying whether that would be good or bad for UF in the end. But from Stricklin's perspective (the man who would have made it a one man race if not for MSU) it is treasonous. If you believe it is in your employer's best interest to do something, and you fail to do it due to a queasiness (his word, not mine) in your stomach over something personal, you have failed at your job. Absolute failure. Not negligence. Willful failure to perform an obligation that he agreed to perform. Total and absolute breach of any contract that he may have. Total breach of all fiduciary duties owed to UF as agent and employee. Totally unprofessional and definitely grounds for immediate termination.

If true.

That's why I hope it is Dooley stirring ****e.

This is all horse poo. If SS was so concerned about hurting his alma mater, then why in God’s name did he leave the head athletic position at his alma mater to willingly come to Florida last year? He wants to be the best AD at the best place possible. He made the best choice for UF. Pointless article by a worthless “journalist”.

I am compelled to agree with the majority opinion, that it is either Dooley is talking out of his uninformed butt, OR SS is derelict in his obligation. Can't be both Dooley. Fess up to making crap up.

I have never commented on Dooley before, but after this coaching search, and more recently his last podcast. I listened to it. I suggest a listen to all of his self confident speculation of what he figures will unfold in terms of coaches/positions. Its all wrong, already proven to be worthless noise.

I think your reading way too much in it. If and that's a big if, you believe what SS said, that he would not deal with a coach while they were coaching, then he handled himself appropriately. He didnt go after Mullen until after the his season was over and only talked to Chip because Chip came to him. Either way it really is silly to work yourself up with, because as Ox has said, we will never know the real facts but we will choose to believe the facts we want to believe. Why not just wait and see how the hire pans out before you start calling out SS on this or that.

I'm still waiting for the Chip Kelly Announcement. They sure do know how to milk this smoke screen. Its almost like a practical joke at this point. Its wearing quite thin, imo. I have to say though, that Dan Mullen, what an actor! I'm almost convinced he is our coach.

I'm too dumb to figure this out, but I do have a question.

Why would a representative of Chip Kelly call UF on Nov. 1 to say he was interested, only to have Kelly turn down UF three weeks later over something he should have known all too well on Nov. 1, that coaching here amounted to being in a fish bowl?

Chip must plan on being a dud at UCLA. If he's wrong, he'll be back to being in a fish bowl.
