And Foley would have been so proud of Strickland hiring the new National Champion coach for peanuts.

Hopefully this will lead to fixing the playoffs to exclude jokers that couldn't win their OWN conference or even division.

I think the only way to do that would be to go back to 2 teams (#1 vs #2) playing 1 game, winner take all. If we look at a year like 2009 and assume there was a playoff, would it really make sense to exclude a 1 loss Florida team that lost in the SEC title game so that an undefeated mid major (that year’s version of 2017 UCF) gets in? Or exclude us in favor of Big East champ Cincinnati, a conference champ that played next to nobody all season but won their weak azz conference before getting steamrolled by us in the bowl game? How about some crummy 2 or 3 loss Big 10 champ getting in over 2009 non-conference champ Florida? 4 team, 6, team and 8 team playoffs don’t work..,and they’d be more of a farce if a conference championship requirement is a mandated requirement.

Couldn't tell if you were for or against more playoff games. Please clarify.

Jerky, I’ve said it a hundred times on this board, I wasn’t in favor of a playoff to begin with because that brought football that much closer to being basketball. Like I said, go back to 1 vs 2 so regular season matters (too bad that won’t happen). However, what your proposing doesn’t work, either...your suggestion of conference champs only makes it like college hoops, too. You’re giving some shytty azz team from some shytty azz conference a bid because they won their conference with a chance to get hot in the post season and win it all. That’s no different than giving a team like Florida Gulf Coast an invite to March Madness with a chance to catch lightning in a bottle. That’s just dumb.

Forgot to mention, doesn’t a team that loses 2 or 3 times during the regular season, but still wins their conference championship, still fall into the category of losing in the first round of the playoffs aka the regular season?

Im for us earning any championships. To be natl champion you must first win your division and your conference.

Yes, the first round is actually the regular season. Bammer lost in the first round to Auburn this year.

The second round is the conf championship game. Auburn lost to Ugly in the second round.

I am going to send my UF diploma back so they can add Best Student Ever. I didn't earn it but as long as people are inventing titles and claiming them, why not.

Agree with Donkey. :barfaway:

Needing to win the conference championship is what makes every game of the season important.

BTW, any team or conference that isn't going to be allowed to compete in the playoff, even if they win every game they play, needs to be in a different subdivision. There is no reason to have 130 teams in the FBS if only 60 of them are going to be in any consideration for the playoff. Put the P5 in their own subdivision if that's what it takes.

It was a rhetorical question. Your way doesn’t work in a 4,6 or 8 team playoff, unless you want a team like UCF included. If regular season is to matter, then neither PAC 12 champ S. Cal nor Big 10 champ OSU would have been eligible for the playoffs this year. Sorry, but 2 regular season losses disqualifies both those teams, conference championship be damned. That leaves 3 P5 conference champs with only 1 loss, which is fairly routine in CFB and therefore not a disqualifier. Using criteria you’ve deemed important wouldn’t give us enough teams to even fill all 4 playoff spots. That means you either need to take a mid level school like UCF that played nobody (I’m not in favor of that, are you?) or take a one loss non conference champ team just to have enough teams to field a 4 team playoff. Neither of those are ideal. The best option is what I already said. Go back to #1 vs #2 and play ONE game to determine the NC. Have a committee of people looking at all the data, including conference championship winners and give them the discretion to decide which 2 teams play for the title. Sounds pretty simple...and awfully familiar. Maybe we could call it something like the BCS. :scratchhead:

The 4 best teams got in! You don't have any business playing for a natty with 2 losses and one of being a 3 td ass whoopin from iowa. My gosh the that argument is stupid.

So then you feel that instead of Bama being the 4th playoff team, either Southern Cal or Ohio State, both of whom lost 2 regular season games, should have gotten the chance to compete in the playoffs for the national championship by virtue of each being conference champions of the PAC 12 and Big 12 respectively? Or you supported UCF getting the 4th playoff spot, despite playing no real competition in a mid tier conference, by virtue of them being AAC conference champs? Which camp are you in?
