I’m not buying the Arkansas claim. They haven’t had any influence on the conference culture whatsoever. They’ve simply become the SC of the west.

I remember chanting it in 1984 when we THOUGHT we had a chance to win the conference for the first time, and certainly in the early 1990s when we did clinch it at home. I assume other programs did that as well.

I suspect it took off as a conference-pride chant with the advent of the SECCG. I’ve been to 3 (1993, 1994 & 1995). At that point it became common to hear our opponents wishing us well as we represented the conference in our bowl.

Kind of like Celtics fans chanting “BEAT LA” when they’d lost the eastern conference finals.

the story in the link skips from 1992 with Arkansas to 2006 with us. total crap. I remember chanting S-E-C as a student in 2000 after we beat south carolina to lock up the SEC east. We were chanting b/c we were going to the SEC championship game, we weren't propping up the conference as a whole. It has morphed into that since 2006, but I agree with MJM. Screw the rest of the conference. I root against them (especially UT, UGA, LSU, bama, AU) whenever I can.

I clicked thinking T REX was about to blow the lid off the Reptilian Illuminati plot. I can see now he's just another disinformation agent.

Speaking of disinformation...your T REX looks more like a Velociraptor than a Tyrannosaur Rex.

I remember chanting SEC! SEC! at conference games in the 90's as in we are going to win the SEC. Winning the SEC was a big deal in the early 90's (before Spurrier made it blase).

The transition to non-conference games blew up after we dismantled tOSU following the 2006 season. Remember, that was the start of SEC National Championship dominance. We barely got into that game (most of the talking heads wanted to give Michigan a rematch) and an undefeated Auburn team got shut out of the BCS title game shortly before. We were disrespected as a conference. That was the chip on our shoulder that led to the chants. Plus, the conference began a multi-year run of winning big in the bowls.

Well rest assured, I WILL NOT be chanting SEC, SEC tonight. I despise Georgia and refuse to indirectly root for them by chanting this when they are one of the participants in the game. Fcvk em!

I refuse to brag on the accomplishments of others.

So you have forgotten back to back NCs in bball, two NCs in football and the many other accomplishments of Gator sports? I seem to remember a baseball team recently as well.
