Report: Jacob Eason expected to transfer to Washington

https://www.dawgnation.com/football/report-jacob-eason-expected-transfer-Washington

Georgia’s season came to an end on Monday night. And it also appears that it may have been the last game for Georgia quarterback Jacob Eason.

Eason is expected to transfer to Washington, barring a last second change of heart, according to a report from Adam Jude of the Seattle Times. Eason started the first game of the season for Georgia, but he sustained an injury of the first quarter of that game and was replaced by Jake Fromm.

After Georgia’s 26-23 loss to Alabama on Monday night, Eason declined to comment on his future, per Seth Emerson of DawgNation.

Fromm started the final 14 games of the regular season. Eason is orginally from Lake Stevens, Wash., and was a 5-star quarterback in the class of 2016. Georgia is bringing in 5-star quarterback Justin Fields in the 2018 class. Fields has already enrolled at Georgia.

Eason started 12 of Georgia 13 games in his freshman season, He threw for 16 touchdowns to just 8 interceptions but Georgia went 7-5 in those starts. He completed 55 percent of his passes and had a 6.6 yards per attempt average. Fromm completed 62 percent of his passes while throwing for 9.0 yards per attempt and threw 24 touchdowns to 7 interceptions.

Eason threw just 7 pass attempts on the season. He will have to sit out the 2018 season due to the NCAA transfer rules and will have two years of eligibility left. Washington opens its 2018 season against Auburn in Mercedes Benz Stadium.

Georgia opens its 2018 schedule at home against Austin Peay on Sept. 1.

My wife is a Washington grad and I told her this was was a possibility, she was excited with the prospect of Browning staying for his senior year and Eason ready to step in next. Though the Husky faithful clearly were a little more "pissed" at Browning after the Fiesta Bowl, and some throughout a season where their expectations were not realized.

Maybe the tatff knew and told Fields?

I guess it's possible. But I'm just not sure how he would've had the insight on this matter.

Why wouldn't he have 3 years left? 2016 he was a freshman and played. 2017 he got hurt in Game 1 therefore a Redshirt. 2018 with transfer, he sits but does that eat a year of eligibility? Or just postpone a year to play?

Yes, sitting out a year eats a year of eligibility. He'll be a 4th year player when he's eligible in 2019 (so he'll be a redshirt Junior in 2019).

So, he could have played this year, still transferred, sit out 2018 as a RS and have 2 years left.

So you don't think he will get a medical redshirt for this year.... play less than a quarter of the season.

I assume because of the 5-year rule. He would have to apply for a 6th year of eligibility.

I doubt he applies for a 6th year. He's a big-time NFL prospect (he's similar to Matt Stafford). If he has a great year at Washington he could very well leave after that 1 season.

But he could is the argument, that was being made.

Of course, you're right. They usually don't ask for a 6th year until after they finish up their 5th year. So he has 3 years to make that decision. I suppose if he gets beat out at Washington he could apply for a 6th year if he could be the starter that year. IMO he's too talented and will only play 1 or 2 years and move on.

What I like about this is it leaves UGA w/ only 2 scholarship QBs. Not that I want to see an injury, but say Fromm goes down there's no telling if Fields will be ready to lead the team the way Fromm did. I want any advantage as possible over them! On the negative side, this opens up their QB recruiting to basically going hard after any 5-star QB they can find.

Ok, I didn't know if you knew something the rest of us didn't... on if he could or couldn't.

Smart move by Eason. He will be all league with Petersen coaching him. Also, Browning will be a senior next year so the redshirt year is a perfect fit.

Nor surprise here. Hurts is next

I'm expecting Hurt to change positions or university before the end of the month. He has to see the writing on the wall.
