was talking with a business associate who is "connected" to the program. word is that Mac told the administration that he was going to resign before the season started because he had been covering up the CC fraud, and they wouldn't let him. He also told them 2 days before the uga game that he wanted to resign, and again, they wouldn't accept it.
the only reason that I could think they wouldn't agree to that is because he was likely asking for his full buyout with the resignation, and they didn't want that. I'd see no other reason to keep him around after he admitted to trying to keep a lid on the CC fraud.
I think he on purposely tanked the season so they had to get rid of him, but that's almost like saying he's not as bad of a coach as he is, and I'm not sure I'm willing to do that.
