RIP KEITH JACKSON.
Always showed us how amazing CFB was. Graciously credited those players for their great efforts.

Iconic voice that immediately let you know it was college football as soon as you hit the channel. Only drawback was teaming with grease, who was anti-Spurrier (jealousy was plain as day).

Always openly pulled for Alabama when he was doing games. My friends and I generally hated him for this. He also despised Steve Spurrier.

This. Never liked the guy. Actually, thought he was already dead. Always associated him with also pulling for FSU and USCw.

He was college football but so was Bobby Bowden. I suppose we'll have a RIP thread for Bowden?

Odd considering the montage I just watched on ESPN had his excited calls for "He's going for the corner.........he's GOT IT!" when Vince Young beat USC, and his excited call for one of FSU's Wide Right games. He must have masked his disappointment well.

I've seen a lot of odd takes on this board, in fact that's what it's known for. But hating Keith Jackson??

You're like 18 years old, you weren't around for the Spurrier era. All the Gator fans I knew couldn't stand him because he always pulled against us in games. It had something to do with Spurrier snubbing him for an interview, and Jackson held a grudge for the rest of his career.

Jackson also thought Spurrier was a run-up-the-score jerk:

"Still ... the rap seems to hang on Spurrier. New York columnist Mike Lupica and ABC's Keith Jackson have both lodged the criticism, along with legions of fans from the schools Florida has not merely beaten but humiliated. And the reason that the charge seems to linger, I think, is simple enough. It isn't just that Spurrier "runs it up," but that he so plainly enjoys the blowouts. Positively relishes them. Demolishing Mississippi State was more than another victory, it was a validation."

Jackson and Spurrier really got into it once:

Confirming an anecdote in a current GQ feature on him, Jackson said he criticized Spurrier during the telecast of the '95 Florida-Tennessee game for having Danny Wuerffel still in the game throwing passes with only two minutes left despite UF's 56-20 prohibitive lead. ``The next time we went down there to do a game, Steve got right up in my face and snapped, `Am I going to have to ask your permission to keep my quarterback in the game?' I told him if I had been [Vols coach] Phil Fullmer, I would have `walked across the field and punched you right in the mouth!'''

I get it. Every announcer who gives an excited call when a play goes against us hates us and wants us to lose. :rolleyes3:

I remember him calling the Rose bowl when I was a kid. "The Granddaddy of them all". Loved when he called games. He was big on "fair play" so he didn't particularly like Spurrier's pedal to the metal attitude.
There were a few game when he and Frank Broyles were together and I could tell he wanted to tell Broyles to STFU. Hated that guy.

IMO...Jackson was the GOAT.
