Before we rush to coronate Belichick the best coach ever on the eve of Super Bowl LII, how about we stop and consider the entire field?

Joe Gibbs was a great one, too.

Shula won at two different teams, with much different teams. He won with defense and running, he won with passing, he won with less than the best talent, and he won with talent that his previous coach did not. He would have had more championships if three players did not leave for money, at least I think so.

Number two is our current enemy at New England. It is close, maybe a tie.

I'm going straight to hell. I voted for Lombardi and I'm from Chicago.

Of course the poll is invalid b/c Ham Sammich is not a choice. However I find the poll to be a fraud b/c neither Rich Kotite or Ray Handley are listed as options.:bananadance2:

Agree with law and NV. And there’s not even a “time period/competition” argument. He’s just been ridiculous for a ridiculously long period of time.

Though I’ll say, I’m not sure any franchise has suffered from a coach’s departure like the Dolphins post Shula(12 failed coaches since ‘94, I believe). And he has the ‘72 season on his resume. Not going to win this poll, and rightly so. But probably one of the more overlooked guys when all things are considered. His steakhouse is terrible though, so that knocks him down a few notches in my book.

Tell me Kotite doesn't look like the Michigan State doctor.

Went with my initial name before even seeing the poll...Lombardi. He won 6 NFL championships(I think one with the Giants) plus the first two SBs. That's basically 8 titles. You could easily say Bill B as well(5 SBs plus 2 as a coordinator). I have no problem with that.

They tend to fall into two different categories.

First you have the master motivators who get the most out of their players on every play. They instill toughness, discipline, and a championship mentality. Lombardi, Shula, Tom Coughlin, etc.

Second you have the master innovators who introduce things like the forward pass, the zone defense, the west coast offense, the zone blitz, the spread, etc. Coryell, Walsh, Paul Brown, etc.

This is tough.

I’d say the best coach for a team would be Belichick.

But he hasn’t changed the game the way Walsh did. Look at what Walsh did and look at what all his assistants did running that same offense with other teams. He’s the father of the dink and dunk offenses we have been seeing over the last 35-40 years.

I don't see how that's 8 titles. The NFL championships were basically NFC championships. He just only had the opportunity to go on to the superbowl in 2 of those years. His first NFL title was as an OC when the league had 12 teams.

Great. You have your opinion and I have mine. I could go with BB no problem.
