I've been underwhelmed by Apple in recent years, mainly because they seem to have started getting away from their simple yet elegant model and into the race to cram features down my throat that I don't even want. But before I digress into a diatribe about that philosophy, I'll just say that an exception to this for me has been the airpod wireless earbuds.

Probably the best thing about the airpods isn't the airpods themselves but the case that they come in. Its about the size of a squished flat golf ball and the airpods magnetically nest inside. The case has its own built in battery so whenever the airpods are in the case, the case is charging them. You can fully charge the airpods several times with the battery power in the case, so pretty much a whole solid day of listening before you have to break out a wire and find an outlet. Also, the quick charge feature lets you get 3 hours of listening time out of a 15 minute charge session. Seeing as how most folk won't ever have these things in their ears for over 3 solid hours I think that's pretty good.

The other good thing about the case is because of its size and shape it goes in your pocket very easy and therefor its easy to keep the airpods with you and easy to stash them away when you're done listening to them so you don't lose the little guys. I never take them out and set them on the counter because I know I'll lose them, just put 'em right back in the case every time. Plus when you go to use them again they'll be charged.

I haven't had any problems with them falling out of my ear and I can wear them through a whole movie without them hurting my ears, which is uncommon for me. Any kind of earbud usually starts driving me insane after about 30-45 minutes.

The other cool thing is that they "know" when they are in your ear which makes your audio/video automatically stop when you take them out and start again when you put 'em back in. But better than that is the automatic pairing/unpairing that they do. I've had bluetooth devices before and what happens is I put it down for a second and then my phone rings and I don't hear it because its still paired to the device. That doesn't happen with these things, they unpair right away and automatically re-pair with your device when you put them back in your ear. And it somehow automatically switches between my phone, ipad, or computer depending on which device I'm using when I put them in. This is the kind of painless, automatic smart stuff that I always liked about Apple and I'm glad somebody there still gets it.

Now put your headphones on and enjoy the live stereo sound of this big ass rocket.

I've wondered about these. I hated the last generation of earbuds as they became uncomfortable. I didn't know how comfortable these would be, nor did I have a clue to their battery situation. So, thank you for posting your thoughts.

You mention they are good for a movie and the pairing goes with you from device to device. How are they for use during running or other physical exercise? It's Bluetooth, but what is their realistic range from the device?

When I read this Apple commercial, I kept waiting for it to turn into a tide pod commercial

Its been my experience with earbuds that they are different for everybody. I would be surprised however if many folks have these things fall out when exercising. I have had those kind with the rubber mushroom tip before and I've never been able to get those to stay in my ears. Never had an airpod fall out. I don't normally walk away from the device but my wife gets about 30 feet indoors with walls and corners and about twice that outdoors when there is direct line of sight.

You can try to stir the pot, but if that is the ONLY reported instance among the hundreds of thousands sold over the past few years I'll take my chances.
I just post the links sir ;)
