SAY WHAT????

LSU reportedly adds former Florida, Alabama OC Doug Nussmeier to staff

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/l...rmer-florida-alabama-oc-doug-nussmeier-staff/

The offensive overhaul continues in Baton Rouge this offseason with yet another head-scratching hire.

To help fix the program’s offensive woes, Ed Orgeron is reportedly hiring former Florida offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier as an offensive analyst. News of the impending hire is being reported by The Advocate.

Bruce Feldman of Sports Illustrated is also reporting the expected hire:

SOURCE: Former #UF OC Doug Nussmeier is expected to join #LSU staff as an offensive analyst. The 47-year-old former NFL QB also has been an OC at #Alabama, #Michigan, #Washington & #FresnoState.

LSU has already replaced offensive coordinator Matt Canada with former OC Steven Ensminger this offseason and added veteran assistant coach Jerry Sullivan to serve as passing game coordinator. The Tigers also have a new offensive line coach in James Cregg.

While Nussmeier has an impressive resume, he’s served as offensive coordinator at Alabama, Michigan and most recently at Florida, his reputation isn’t nearly as stellar as the positions he has held. After leaving Alabama, the Crimson Tide offense took a huge step forward under former OC Lane Kiffin. While at Florida, Nussmeier’s offenses got progressively worse finishing 11th in scoring offense in the SEC 2015, 12th in 2016 and 13th in 2017.

How effective all these offensive coaching changes are for the Tigers will be one of the biggest storylines this offseason in the SEC. If Orgeron strikes out on these hires, he may not survive to correct his mistakes.

Wow, fired a stellar OC because he wanted to score points, hired a terrible OC that last called plays over a decade and got fired for incompetence, and adds Nusschump to back him up.

Ole Ogre is building a dynasty over there.

I always think maybe Zook, Chimp, Ogre, etc might be a good coach given the right circumstances and right coordinators but then the keep repeating the same stupid mistakes that got themselves fired the first time.

Youre at LSU and have a giant budget. How do you end up with a trash staff?

I was praying he would be the new OC. But, yeah replace Matt Canada with that staff is rather funny.

"Here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna call a two-man route into a six man coverage on first down. Now when our QB can't find anyone open and either gets mauled by half the defensive line or throws it away, we're going to call an iso dive up the middle on 2nd & 10. When that nets us about 2 yards, we'll call a short crossing route on 3rd & 8 to make sure we don't lose too many yards before we punt. Ready? Let's do it!"
