From the article.

“Listen, winning one SEC Championship Game doesn’t make you a dominant program, you know what I’m saying?” Mullen said with a laugh. “In two of the last three years, we’ve been to the SEC Championship Game. So even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.”

Shots fired at UGA. Mac thrown under the bus. I love it.

To be fair, most busses dont have enough ground clearance to have Mac UNDER the bus.

This has been discussed a bit in the NSD Press Conference topic, but as I posted in that thread, I thought this quote was a pretty big deal and might deserve its own topic (which you have now given it). Since this is now a more direct conversation on the quote, I'll put what I said in the other thread in here as well:

I'm honestly shocked this isn't getting more discussion here. My Bama buddy texted me an article about this quote and was really surprised Mullen would make such a bold statement. Basically said that this was Mullen saying he wouldn't let Georgia take over the east.

To me, this is a very defining statement. He is basically laying down a couple huge points:

1 - I'm not McElwain and the two SEC East titles he brought here are not adequate. We can and will do better.

2 - I'm not scared of Georgia. We can and will compete with them and we will treat that game as the huge rivalry and season influencing game it should be.

To me this quote is massive and almost deserves it's own thread. The fact it is buried here and getting no discussion seems to not do it the justice it deserves.

It really is staggering just how much Mac didn't "get it". Unless, of course we're talking about the shark.

I’m liking Dan more every day. He’s not conceding anything to anyone. He’s embracing the importance of the rivalry much like Meyer did...and Meyer dominated our rivals.
Here’s to Mullen making the nulls and dwags our b*thces again! :swampqueen:

Anyone remember when Meyer, in 2005, his first year, relented and put in a fullback to lead block and to pass block? The week of the leghumper game. He understood how important it was to beat them. I think Mullen understands too. (I bet Spurrier has bent his ear too)

Just beat UGa.

I'm split on the trash talk. Love DM's energy but kinda wish he'd get his feet wet in G'ville with a few big wins before he did that.

Meyer didn’t. He came in guns blazing. Just like Spurrier

They were both extremely confident, but did they trash talk before a single snap was taken? I can't recall.

I don't think he's been over the top with it. He's been making the point that things are different. He's one upped Urbs and Saban for recruits and he's actively pursued great players. The kids need to see that he plans to compete and get them to buy into the attitude. I'm damn glad to see it.

I recall that HATED our rivals. I’m not even sure that he even referred to them by name. Just devalued their existence. I think we only lost one rivalry game whole time he was here.

They had distinctly different ways of diminishing our rivals. SOS would poke a long stick at the other guys. Meyer would take the uppity approach.

Mullen is just responding to questions. He’s not going out his way to stir it up, but he’s not shying away from the challenge.

Good for him. I love the comment for many of the reasons already noted. After all I believe he said that at a booster event where fans WANT to hear that kind of bold talk.

I am glad he's not talking about UGA in the reverential tone some of this board have been using lately.

Have already heard from an acquaintance who roots for the Dogs who is highly offended by what Mullen said. That makes it even better!!
