This is funny...

Arkansas State set to sue Miami if payment for canceled game is not made soon

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/s...ue-miami-payment-canceled-game-not-made-soon/

Playing bigger opponents is big money for smaller schools, as they sign contracts to visit powerhouse programs to keep their athletic departments afloat.

This year, though, Arkansas State has yet to get their payment from a game that was scheduled against Miami, as the contest was canceled by Hurricane Irma.

Now, according to KAIT8.com, Arkansas State is prepared to sue Miami if the $650,000 sum isn’t paid by Thursday:

A letter released to Region 8 News from A-State indicates Miami must pay the Red Wolves $650,000 by Thursday, Feb. 15. The amount was based on a contract signed between the universities in 2013.

ASU System General Counsel Brad Phelps released a statement saying he hopes the situation doesn’t have to go to court, but put the onus on Miami to pay up:

It is very unfortunate that we have been unable to resolve this matter, and we remain hopeful this can be worked out without the need for litigation. Ultimately that will be up to the University of Miami.

This is an unfortunate situation, and we’ll have to wait and see if the two sides reach an agreement by Thursday’s deadline.

A lot of people in Arkansas were upset that Miami cancelled since it was to be played in Jonesboro and the weather was fine there. But what angered Arkansans more is that Miami was originally scheduled to play FSU the following week and they reportedly started preparing for that game early.

They can try to sue, but I am not sure that the entire POS school is worth $650k. Maybe if the level the buildings and just sell off the property?

Looks like time to pass the hat in Coral Gables and collect from all of those big money boosters they have....oh wait, they don't have any.

Okay, so maybe they can collect some of that recruiting money from Luther Campbell and Nevin Shapiro.....oh wait, Nevin is in prison and Luther hasn't had a hit record since the eighties.

Okay, so where do they go now????

They can't afford their own stadium or IPF, what makes them think they can pay for games?

It's one thing to be a little fiscally stained. It's quite another to have a small school calling you out in public, and your AD spending the next 7 years dodging calls from an Arkansas area code.

It must have been over 10 years since Dwayne Johnson(The Rock) actually donated a million to the University's athletic program. I don't think he gave them a dime ever since.

Every contract has the stipulation of Force Majeure...basically if there is an act of nature that prohibits the agreement from being executed, then the contract is null and void. I side with Miami on this one....yes, I just threw up in my mouth. But there was a freakin Cat 5 beaing down on the state and though ASU offered to fly them to Memphis, the school didn't find it wise to leave the state that was just about to get hammered.

interesting...you would think Arky State would know of such a clause and not force the issue
