Great name Fodderwing. As a boy dad drove us through Wildwood on the way to Lakeland from Gville. All those train tracks still stand out.
We never stopped there. I remember just south was Coleman and Bevilles Corner and Webster heading to 98. I did have a volkswagon fixed just south of the Turnpike on that road. (301?)

Yep, 301 is Main Street in WW.

We were in Belleview for 11 years & 2 sons went through high school there. We’d play Wildwood every now and then and they were always tough as nails.

Wildwood beat Lake Weir High one year 91 to 0, may have been the '70 team.

Couple years later LW beat WW 44 to 43 and the newspapers played up as if LW won the super bowl.

Leave it to a newbie with a story about Wildwood to bring me out of retirement. Thanks for posting Fodderwing.

My Aunt was married to Byrd Wigham for a short bit. Ronnie Perry is my uncle. My Dad played for Wildwood back then. Another uncle of mine is Dub Palmer. I have lots of family in Wildwood including my mom.

I almost certainly know you or some of your family. Coach Palmer was my Civics teacher.

The Perry's ran a hardware store, I remember Johnny Van Perry. It is an a ACE now and still in the family, run by one of the grandsons.

My roots run deep in WW, one of my great grandfathers helped build the old Presbyterian church, the first church building in WW.

We had a Church of Christ preacher in Newberry named Spivey. He quit and went to open or run a hardware store in Wildwood back in the 70s or early 80s. Did you know him. I dont think he lasted very long.

Your Aunt is Sally?
Yes

Ronnie Perry and his brother owned the Ace Hardware. Ronnie sold his half to his brother about 20 years ago and moved to NC. He's a property appraiser up there and got all his kids involved in that business. They're all doing VERY well.

I used to play golf at Rolling Hills and swim at the pool when I was a kid. Used to fish at Lake Miona when I was young as well.

Yes, I did know Mr. Spivey. I did not know where he came from, that is interesting. Mr. Spivey took over from Mrs. McCain, I guess bought her out. My father had an account at that store and we bought stuff for the farm there.

In 2017 the Wildwood boys lost in the FSHAA basketball finals and the girls won.

In 2018 the girls repeated as Champs and the boys won, too.

My hometown.

How cool is that.
When I was a kid we drove through there many times going to Gator games. Sounds similar in many ways to my south Central Florida hometown, Frostproof.

Two key landmarks before interstate coming back north, Yee Haw Junction and Wildwood! Good times....
A truck ran through the one building in Yee Haw Junction, the Desert Inn. Half of it is still there. Back in the day one could easily get his azz whipped there when the cowboys came there off the big ranches for a little booze, women and song or a good fight.

I broke down in Wildwood once. I was returning to school after an airshow in Titusville. One of the planes broke a gear taxing and we had to off load the fuel. So I figured 'free gas" and put it in the car. So I broke down on the side of the turnpike and State Troopers stopped by but they wouldn't take me to the service plaza because they said they weren't in the "Taxi" business. Somehow I got the car to a mechanic working in his front yard. Much to his disappointed the fuel filter was just clogged.

The Lady cats came up 1 point short to Ponce De Leon, missing a last second shot for the win.

Wildwood defeated Williston 46 to 35 in the first round of FHSAA playoffs last night on Williston's home field.

Williston came into the game undefeated.
