I love talking about cars. Anyone else? What's your favorite brand and model. What was your first car? What are you currently driving? Have you ever been in a fender bender? A bad ticket?

Let's talk cars.

(Meanwhile, crickets.)

I could talk about my Hyundai Elantra, but I’m pretty sure that would kill the thread.

I don't have a picture but my first car was a 1968 Plymouth Fury that my father handed down to me. Fortunately gas was very cheap back then, I seem to remember 14.9 as the cheapest price I ever paid.

Favorite brand and model?
Ever since my grandfather rebuilt a 1964 Corvette, that has been the dream car. His was a dark sparkly fiberglass blue body, red interior, with white convertible top. Only got to ride in it up and down the street he lived on. My aunt inherited it when he passed, and she had it gutted and redone in black with white seats...I've never forgiven her for that.

First car?
It was a 1976 Toyota Celica, blue, my dad bought it for $600 in 1986. Loved that car. Used to drive it through the halls of elementary schools in Gainesville late at night. Topped out at 103 mph on the way to the beach. I killed it when it got a pinhole in the fuel pump. I've killed all my cars one way or another - last owner syndrome.

Currently driving '16 Honda Civic Touring version. Totaled my last civic with 300k miles. Sticking with civics as long as I have an hour commute for work. This is the first time in my life I find myself telling my wife at least once a week how much I love my car.

Fender bender? See above  And I also took out the fence at the driver's rehab class after my worst ticket ever, which brings us to

Tickets? First was doing 50 in a 30 with my dad riding shotgun and I'm on my learner's permit.
Him: Hey, see that sign?
Me: (looks up) Oh, 30
Him: How fast are you going?
Me: (looks down) Oh, 50
Him: See that other car coming?
Me: (sees cop) Oh sht

But the worst was on I-95 driving back from seeing my future wife in Virginia. I'm driving a blue '95 Pathfinder, get passed by a red '95 Pathfinder with Dade tags. Hell, if he can do it, I can do it. We're booking it at around 105 down the interstate and I see a beat up old 80's mustang in the breakdown lane. Now, I was making this drive a lot for two years, and I say to myself "That looks like an unmarked police car I've seen before". As we pass it, I look in, and yup, it's the cop.

He chases us down, curls a finger at me to follow while he goes after the lead car. I catch up to the two of them pulled over and pull in behind them. He walks back, to tell me he'll deal with me when he's done with the first guy, so I just sit on the rail and wait. Other guy takes off and cop comes to me "License and registration". Well, you see officer, it's Sunday afternoon and I was in Charlottesville with my girlfriend and her friends at a bar until it closed at 2AM. I'm pretty hung over, but more importantly, I left my wallet in her apartment by accident.

Clocked over 100, no form of ID, I'm expecting to get locked up. I suppose pulling over as instructed and not being the lead car instigating high speeds bought me some leeway. I got a $476 ticket and mega points. Went to court to try and get rehab class (for like the eighth time) instead of points and was granted that leeway by the court. Paid the additional $200 for the rehab class.

Pulled over a few months later and asked if I've ever been suspended - No sir, never (though the points on the last one would have done it). He says "You are now". Seems, if you don't ALSO pay the $200 court costs, they suspend your license.

I thought Celica GTs were soooooo damn cool in mid 80’s
Celica GT or Supra GT? I liked the mid-'80s Supra GT even more. Great car. Great looking car.

Those suckers really held their value. That vintage and the 2JZ Supra from the early '90s, which became the ultimate tuner car.
