Up first- New Belgium- The Hemperor

New Belgium has never steered me wrong...Until now that is. Fat Tire, Citradelic, and Abbey are all a delight. The Voodoo ranger is fine as well, Probably my least favorite of the four though.

Hemperor- On tap at a pub down the street. Keg came in on Tuesday, so I was excited to try it last night.
20 oz pour that looks similar to their other IPA's. I pick up the glass and am immediately struck by what smells like someone has stuck a pound of weed under my nose. It's an overwhelming aroma of burning weed. I dive right in for a big gulp of the Hemperor, and can confirm it tastes the same way it smells. It feels like the pound of weed is now in my mouth, Hops are light and present but overwhelmed by the weed taste. Yet it goes down much smoother than the initial taste. It has potential, but fails for the most part. I'd compare it to having a fine slice of Wagyu covered with a dozen slices of cheese. There might be a great piece of meat on this burger, but I wouldn't know because all I can taste is a pound of cheese, No Gouda. This one is right up Bart's alley, but I won't be trying it again anytime soon. D Minus 2/5 stars is generous.

Creature Comforts- Tropicalia

Fair warning. This one is brewed where the devil lives. Another 20 oz pour on tap. The smell is inviting unlike
the Hemperor. It goes down easy with a hint of Pineapple and Orange. This is a pool goers delight in mid summer. An easy drinking IPA that is light on hops and big on flavor. The pub has it in cans too. Which I couldn't help but notice is Blue & Orange, despite being brewed behind enemy lines. This one is a winner,Highly recommend. A- 4/5 stars.

Reformation - Cadence

This is their take on a Belgian style dubbel. 20 oz pour on tap , same as the others. Not much of an aroma, but there is a hint of pine there. It's a dark amber pour, but doesn't taste like your ordinary dark beer. It's light and refreshing. Perfect for a day at the pool or beach . This is a good, but not great beer. B 3/5 stars.

Thanks @Gatorbait25 and I'll add a review (for those of us lower on the brew food chain ;)).

I've tried several of the crafts at the urging of some of our members and have enjoyed Florida Cracker, though it is only available in cans and I'm a bottle guy with draft coming in a close second. I am a fan of the Belgian offerings and Erdinger is always a pleasure when we go up to Helen GA each fall for Oktoberfest. Smooth and not bitter appeals to me. Plus, they have those glasses you can get that look to hold about a liter. Off the shelf (and if Mama and I go to Long Horn), I'll get a Blue Moon. Very enjoyable for an old country boy and I'm secure enough with my manhood that I don't decline the orange slice.

But if I'm honest, I don't feel inferior with a cold Bud Light. Not as smooth as a nice wheat, but not rough enough to make you flinch or feel like a railroad tie has been driven into your skull (unless you go way beyond what's reasonable). In fact, there is a Mexican joint (El Jalisco) on Hwy 27 in Havana that has the coldest draft I've found in quite a while and a couple of the big mugs works well with their fish tacos or chile rellanos. Only thing is that I have to remind myself to leave my pocket knife at home, as I sometimes feel wont to cut a ----- if I go past my self-imposed limit of two. But then again, it's the "King of Beers" and bloodshed is a part of their legacy here in the panhandle.

I’m not a fan of all the modern day craft beers, IPAs, fruit infused offerings and the like. Red Stripe, Peroni, Stella, Corona and domestics are what I prefer. I like a good Kirin or Sapporo when I’m eating sushi.

I’m all about cold... almost doesn’t matter what beer it is if it’s cold

Cans have made a comeback for many reasons. The two major reasons are that they preserve the quality of the beer better and the packaging/shipping is cheaper. Rinse the top and pour into a glass and you'll have a more positive experience. PM me if you want me to look up some good Belgians for you.

Listen to this man, @cover2 . Quality belgians.

I avoid any of the hoppy IPA horsepiss all skinny pants wearers drink. But a good Belgian is from heaven. Or something like a milk stout.

Anyone ever tried a Samichlaus beer? It is actually aged 10 months before bottling, only brewed once a year in December & was once the strongest beer in the world. It is almost like an after-dinner drink as it has a sweet malty taste. Not too many places carry it.

The ipa will put hair on your chest. I used to not like them but started drinking to get my name on a plate 8 years ago and it’s about all I drink now. The black ipa’s are the best however the abv gets a little high for me so I have to be careful. Still like the red and nut brown ales...basically any ale. The fruit ones are for the bats.

That is watered down beer, which they water down again to make it Light.
Yeah well next fall on gameday let's see you try and down 20 plus cans or bottles of some peach & mango/pomegranate infused fruity pebbles brew after hacking down a rack of ribs and 20 or so hot wings....
Beer is meant to be swill.....and it's meant to be swilled in large quantities that won't make you sh!t a fruit salad or worse yet regurgitate one on your living room floor in the 2nd quarter....
