GC podcast suggests Mullen did not realize just how damaged the UF brand is at this time, hence the suggestion in an earlier post that he and the staff are just expecting kids to want to come here.
They acknowledge that it looks like Steele and Pittman are now both gone. Rae is likely ours.
They also note PIckering was huge miss and that there don't seem to be too many backup plans for the blue chippers they are missing out on. They're swinging for the fences but not adjusting well when they miss on these guys.
This class is likely going to blow chunks. Dan can either respond to his wake up call or join the previous two failed HC in being a bullheaded screw up.
I'm really done with this "didn't know how bad things were" talk. With Muschmap it was "behavior", McElwain it was "facilities", and now it's "brand" with Mullen and Co. Really, you didn't have any indication that we weren't the UF you left, and expected to just waltz into a golden situation with recruits beating down the door? I'm not debating that the UF brand has taken a major hit. But it was never a secret, and certainly not for someone within the conference that obviously had his eye somewhat on the job.
I'm still behind Mullen until proven otherwise, but this talk(assuming the article is accurate) is more of the same loser talk. If it's so bad, let's shake hands, forget about the 6mil contract we gave you, and part as friends. If, on the other hand, you want to keep the money, then stop making excuses and produce.
As for the idea of changing up the staff at year's end, I don't know if that will even work. College football has very small windows. He'll be a year in at that point, which only makes it that much harder to get things corrected in a timely fashion. Sometimes those little mistakes you make early on end up telling your whole story.
