So dive instructor then.

Although I would have a much better shot at trauma surgeon than rock star. I've seen more spleens, kidneys and bowel removed than I care to remember.

This is a serious thread and I expect serious responses only.
In the spirit of your serious responses only utopian thread, do I have to continue to account for the 3 mouths at home I have to feed and clothe and shelter, or can I be selfish and go back to school for a few years and do something else?

That’s up to you, whichever is a realistic option. I would assume many if not most new occupations would require at least some amount of training/education.

College professor. I went back to school to get my Master's when I was 48 (53 now)....so I can be a Hospitality Professor. It is hard finding a full time gig without a PhD....but I am a finalist for a FT gig in Utah.....my wife is FREAKING out that I will get the job and we will move to Southern Utah from Chicago....but teaching has been my passion the past few years.

Man, this is a hard question to wrap my head around. Cant get past "fantasyland" vs "what if this really happened".

I've gone through 1 complete career field change, but the core education and knowledge base was the same.

For fantasyland, I could think of nothing better than some sort of professional athlete. About the only thing I could have a shot at would be something in the triathlete world.

For real life, I think I would somehow try to get into the space industry.

Realistic do-over: Finish/custom carpenter. I hope to do some major hobby/DIY work when I retire, but would’ve been really cool to have my own business. I’m too much of a perfectionist to work quickly, though.

Fantasy Island:

1. Had I lived out my childhood fantasy of being a WR for UF and Dallas, I would’ve had the added bonus of playing with Emmitt Smith for over 15 years. That would’ve been epic.

2. PGA pro.

3. Eddie Van Halen-level guitar skills and fame.

I would love to teach high school history to gifted kids. But that don't pay the bills.

Fighter pilot. :embarrassed: Already too late though. The future belongs to the drones.

Chef. Love the cooking part, hate the business of running a restaurant. Plus they all get divorced for banging the waitresses.

Surgeon. Something fulfilling like delivering babies.

Writer. Political stuff. Maybe a radio show.

Farmer/Rancher. Not an industrial farm. More like George Washington or Thomas Jefferson but without the slaves. Heritage breeds of pigs, fowl, sheep/goats, some cattle. Smokehouse on property. Sausage and preserved meat products. Some dairy products (cheese, butter). Vegetables, some grains, fruit, some vines. Small brewery and distillery, and wine. Bees (which means honey and mead).

Some of the most miserable people I've ever met.

It has a lot to do with them getting a 10 million dollar lawsuit every time a child is born with three thumbs or any problems.

More like a Mother Earth News type farm. Sounds like more fun it is, imo. All those critters poop, alot.

I cant think of a job more fun and full filling than the one I just quit. But I wish I had started recording things from day one and began writing soon after. I used to think pediatrician because it was still kids and I felt like one diagnosing injuries all the time.
