FWIW Larry Guest became one of those that SOS had nothing to do with. Now I can see why.
I'm very confused. Spurrier didn't like Guest because Guest repeated what Smith said to several reporters WITH hand-held recorders? Or are you personally trying to label this fake news?

If this is accurate -- and I know personally that Pete Kerasotis is a very reliable source -- it would go a long way toward filling in the blanks.

Funny comment by Guest at the bottom about Auburn being a beacon of racial enlightenment.

All i knew was SOS hated Guest. That was good enough for me. Not labeling anything. If Emmitt was targeted with racial slurs for leaving UF early I can see a reason for some his "petulance"............

Was this Emmitt's Mac moment? Or, stated different, was Mac taking a cue from Emmitt?

That was a derisive period for the Florida football team. The Pell sanctions robbed us of an SEC title and the scholarship cap was felt throught the decade. Hall's firing was somewhat controversial as many felt it was an overreach. By the end of the '89 season, it felt like the life had been pretty much sucked out of the program.

Spurrier was the knight in shining armor. Maybe Emmitt didn't have more accommodation left in him. I can't blame him. He had a bright future. But I don't see what it accomplished to burn the bridge over disappointment over what could have been. In fact, it sounds self-centered.

Re the fans, there are always going to be a few who take it too far. Emmitt found that out and Mac did, too. You risk more by reacting to it publicly than by just acting as if it didn't happen.

It looks like we are getting somewhere now, I'm not sure if I chose to ignore this or to busy with two jobs and my own little pop warner Cowboy team to notice, but most likely it's just from another time, before everything we say goes viral. As for letting things roll off your back, that's probably easier now with the volume of criticism being so high than it was then when each letter seemed so personal.
A few years later he came back to get his degree, but that follows the theme he seems to take of what can the university do for me, but I'm not giving back.

The professors that he felt made a difference in whom he is, he does help and also contacts on a regular basis. A buddy's dad is one of those professors.

Dating back to the NSD presser where he had Nebraska and Florida caps resting on the table, there never was any doubt about who came first in Emmitt's mind. It was always going to be him.

Coach, we seem to be trying to paint this thing all black and white. Is it possible he was able to compartmentalize his feelings about UF?

Here is what I typed earlier or close. Emmitt came along at the worst time in gator history (mine anyway). The NCAA had basically given us the death penalty with no bowls no TV and scholarship penalties for doing pretty much what the "powers" in the SEC were doing as standard OP. And still did for many years on. Emmitt was all we had for 3 years and it was pretty exciting to see his talent still produce when they KNEW he was getting the ball. Then God smiled on us with a 100000000 watt grin that erased decades of futility, shame and hoplessness. Emmitt was soon a footnote in gator lore as the SOS shadow insulated us completely from our past. I saw him as a reward for our loyalty and punishment for the hypocrisy of the SEC teams that said "you are not allowed to play by our rules"........then SOS made the new rules...........
Fla didnt need Emmitt at all after that............My wish is that SOS reaches out to Emmitt and they either prove this was mostly innuendo or bury it with a show of unity. But I can live with it either way. I dont lose sleep at night over it. But saying dozens deserve it if Emmitt deserves it shows a like of gator history.............If you go by wow moments he is top 3 easily.............

That’s the thing coach and that’s what some like myself keep trying to tell you. You want to make the statue thing a “subjective” award. You feel Emmitt is worthy. Someone else may feel Percy is. Hell. Some defensive guy may think Louis Oliver is. Once you start making things subjective there’s no way someone couldn’t make an argument for 50 different people.

As dynamic as Spurrier and Smith could have been together, it would have been a match made in hell. Smith would have demanded the ball and Spurrier wasn't one to kowtow. Hell, he even sat Danny for the '95 Homecoming game because he felt the Heisman talk had gotten too thick.

At least we finally got PE to admit that Emmitt has a grudge against UF. It's a Festivus miracle!

You convinced me, too. That Larry Guest piece is pretty damning. I'm disappointed in Emmitt for acting the way he did. It's as if he thinks UF owes him something for failing to automatically deliver Heismans and titles.

Nothing is more subjective than a Hiesman vote. Hell sometimes they know their ballot is ******** and the do it anyhow.
Please stop with the Percy talk, riding around and smoking a blunt with our current players will have to be enough for him, you feel me bossman.

Yes. It’s subjective but that’s one of the requirements for a statue.
The Percy is just a name j threw out there. Hell let’s go with Wes chandler then.

Let’s try this then. What do you feel should be the requirements for a statue ?

Hell let’s go with Wes chandler then.
Wes was probably the best WR fla ever had. If you picked the best at every position. I got Wes at WR and Emmitt at RB. They both suffered somewhat from the lack of QB play.

I posted my thoughts on this 5 or 6 pages back. I'm on an old phone that's a pain, so I'll try again later tonight.
