Recruiting Is it fair to wonder if UGA is paying recruits?

I was talking to oxking about this. It's basically a useless topic because we'll never know, but I just couldn't help but wonder.

Kirby gets to UGA and they suddenly start racking up elite players like there's no tomorrow. They have more 5-star recruits than the rest of the conference combined. So how are they doing it? Why is Georgia suddenly the place to go for the best players in the country? Are we supposed to believe that Kirby and his staff are just THAT much better recruiters than everyone else?

Georgia hasn't won the NC for nearly 4 decades, so you can't say it's their championship tradition like Alabama. So what the hell is going on?

Discuss.

He's an interesting position, because normally the SEC doesn't tolerate cheating by anyone who's not trailerbammer. Normally trailerbammer starts immediately squealing when someone else starts paying also. However you know that Kirby Bangs knows where the bodies are buried with respect to trailerbammer cheating.

Yes, but wouldn't you think Mac would have known those too?
I think Saban was probably smart enough not to trust Butters with that type of info. Plus Kirby was there a lot longer than Butters.

Please don't try and cover for your boy Mullen's recruiting inadequacies ....whatever Kirby, Dabo, Saban and Meyer are doing is the same thing we need to be doing.....

Mullen isn't "my boy" unless he starts winning, asshat. This has nothing to do with Mullen.

Kirby is outrecruiting damn near everyone, including Meyer and Dabo. How do you think he's doing that?

If you're saying we need to be paying (or paying more) for players just say so and quit beating around the bush.

Hard to know. It is fair to speculate. I kind of wish there was an FBI sting just like college basketball so everyone went down in flames and the SEC and college football could start afresh with some integrity in the recruiting game.

All I know is that we had the same conversation when Ole Miss was doing it a couple years ago. And look how that turned out. Anytime you see a spike like that immediately you have to wonder.

Let's say there's a 5-star player that is being recruited hard by 5 major universities. It only takes ONE of those schools to come forward with a cash offer or equivalent to sway him their way.

If the rest are paying them then by all means, pay them. I have no idea how they are doing it.

Until the system is burned to the ground we won’t really know the difference between good recruiting and cheating. Right now they are probably one and the same.

I knew a family member of Trent Richardson. That family member told me point blank he got an Escalade for signing with Bama. Kirby learned at the foot of the master, so he probably knows all the tricks for getting away with it.

I think UGA probably bought Cook and Tyson Campbell. Just a hunch.

Is the bear Catholic?

Does a Pope poop in the forest?

Remember when all of a sudden out of nowhere Ole Miss started pulling in top classes?

Same-Same.

Depending on what you believe, a better question may be "Is it fair to wonder if UGA is getting more bang for their recruiting bucks?!" But to your specific question, Ox, my personal belief is that Kirby was/is the hot new kid on the block and was regarded as Saban's right hand man and one he worked with for quite a while and trusted as much as he can trust anyone. He had a big hand in Bama's success while he was there. I think he's held in much higher regard than Muschamp and most of Saban's other assistants, especially McElwain. Thus, he's one of the guys in college ball everyone wants to play for (or so it would seem). I look forward to us reestablishing ourselves as a destination for the best, but I'm just not sure how long it'll take us to get back to that point. It's obviously going to take more than "We're Florida, dammit!"

I think Kirby and his boys are good recruiters. I just don't know how they are THAT MUCH better than everyone else. It doesn't add up.

At least with Bama, you can point to their unprecedented string of championships to explain why kids would want to go there.
