Recruiting Is it fair to wonder if UGA is paying recruits?

I’ve always thought UGA had it made. They are by far the premier program in the 2nd most talent rich state in the South East. If you are born within the state borders and don’t have a relative who went to Tech, then you are by default an UGA fan.

I can understand why they pulled two 5⭐️ OL, and two 5⭐️ RBs. They obviously have the best OL coach in the country, and RBs want to play behind a great OL. When their OL coach leaves and is promoted to an OC position they might take a dip on offense.

Of course he's paying them, so is Alabama, Auburn, Clemson and possibly OSU. The question is if we are paying. If we are paying, we're not paying enough.

I think it's probably more to do with the perfect storm they've found themselves in. To his credit, Smart was a staple at Alabama, where McElwain was simply a part of things(the weaker part at that) for a few years that never really fit. So he carried a lot of that with him in terms of name recognition. Add that to Jones flailing yet again in 2016, and then being a dead man walking by end of September last year, plus the disaster we'd become, and suddenly uga looks like a great option in comparison, especially with the year they had.

I do think it's fair to speculate that he may be pushing the envelope more so than others. And I think law is correct that he likely knows too much for Saban to do anything. But I think it's more about momentum and a place becoming the trendy place to be. The instability at fsu probably pushed Fields to uga as much as anything, and then other pieces started to fall into place, just like Tebow in 2006, or to a lesser extent Grier in 2013 before we imploded.

Think of guys like Fayson, who could've started at fsu or miami, but chose to be a part of what UF was building on the promise that Meyer would give him a shot(probably about 3 reps) at QB. Or Demps and the Pounceys putting their childhood favorite aside and signing with their archival. There are numerous other examples. We were that school for a while. Unfortunately, they're it right now.

I still think the other shoe will drop for them, quite possibly this season. I don't completely buy KS being that great. I think he walked into a great situation and rode that wave to a second pace finish. I wouldn't be shocked if they never reach that height again, talented roster or not. In their only games against teams with a pulse, they went 3-2.

But I'll continue to state that we've NEVER worried about uga recruiting. Spurrier himself used to joke about their talent level, and wonder why it didn't translate to the field. Richt had some great classes as well and some very successful seasons. Yet, outside of maybe 2007, find a year that you'd say they got a "leg-up" on us. If UF takes care of its own recruiting, UF will win this battle way more often than we lose it. That's entirely on us.

They had some crazy number of seniors last year. I think the number was 35.

With that he got absolutely embarassed vs Barn the first game and imploded vs Bammer.

Except for Vandy, UF is the best school in the conference. Levin puts out a bunch of good lawyers. We need to get some that know how to bend the rules better. Or just get as dirty as Uga, AU or Bama. Start paying the 5 star kids. If we have to cheat to win, I'm on board. It's not like we're shooting the President.
And yeah I think Uga is paying players.

It's not a question of if, it's a question of how. Lots of fans of UGAy without any official affiliation to the school. Smart was already a part of an operation like that in Gumpville.

It is crazy but I guess Cam Newton showed you can do the crap right out in the open as long as you don't cooperate with the NCAA. They have no real power to force non University linked people to cooperate with any investigation.

At Bama you had the guys flashing cash on twitter bragging right after they signed with Bama and everyone seems to have a new expensive vehicle along with their parents after they sign.

Should have been a tough sales job after MacTard beat his azz in '16. Apparently not.

I agree with this. Like the NCAA, I have no proof, but I'm reasonably positive that most of the top programs are paying. But how do you police it with the possibility that it may shine a light on the sport that isn't ideal? They'll probably discover that it has run rampant.

The only actual evidence of corruption in that was Cowbell admitting to trying to pay him. The rest is speculation and or an excuse.

Let's say there's a 5-star player that is being recruited hard by 5 major universities. It only takes ONE of those schools to come forward with a cash offer or equivalent to sway him their way.
I kind of assumed that's how we got EJ.

I think Kirby is smarter that that. Ga. seems to be the flavor of the week. If however he is paying recruits it will come out, just ask Ol Miss.
