So last night in the chat box... family board games was the topic. There are quite a few fans, and even someone who has designed his own board games. What are some of your favorites?
For the adult theme:
Cards Against Humanity is an obvious favorite. The expansion packs are hilarious. You have to be willing to laugh at some pretty crude humor.
Exploding Kittens. I havent bought this yet, but I have only heard great things.
Longer, strategy games:
Settlers of Catan. I have played it. And I do like it. But WAY too involved and long for me to be a favorite game.
For just 2 person strategy: my kids love playing Connect4. They are finally getting to the point where I dont destroy them.
For just good laughs: we use the cards from Headbands to do charades and totally changed the rules/points system. This silly simple charades generates the most laughs (for kids) by a long shot.
My youngest loves to play the classic Memory. Mainly because nobody can beat the little shiit because she almost has a photographic memory. I did once and I still rub it in her face. We have played it so many times that we know all the little nicks and bends on the backside of the cards.
More time reasonable (~ 2 hours), family strategy:
Ticket to Ride. This is a house favorite. We did modify the rules a tad to speed it up. It has really taught the kids a lot about geography. There are millions of expansion packs.
Our #1 favorite game is Battlesheep. The board is reshaped for every game... so it is always new and different. Kinda like a checkers or chinese checkers, except you can really pin in an opponent and screw them over. There are no teams, so it makes for interesting emotions when 2 people start to gang up on someone else (usually mom). Even only the adults will play this against each other.
What are some other favorites out there?
