After checking out some of Detroit's amazing work with tank models, I started watching YouTube videos on Hot Wheels restorations. The great thing about these is that they are very small and simple and doing this usually doesn't take that long. I had also never handled an airbrush in my life, and wanted to learn. So I'm just getting started and am buying supplies.

For a test vehicle, I reached into the pile of my 4-year old grandson's cars and came up with this GMC truck. It's seen better days. I'm going to see what I can do with it and hope you will follow along on this epic saga.

Here's what I have to work with:

I look forward to watching your progress, and I would hardly call what I've done "amazing"... it's my first attempt in 35 years (and first attempt with airbrush ever) and while I'm very happy with how it's going, I feel like a scrub compared to the youtube videos I'm learning from, but loving it and the time it gives me to just zone out and think while doing it. I think I'm just going to wrap this one up as a "first attempt" and move on to another and try more techniques on that rather than playing with this one forever... i'll make it a progression. Anyway, it makes me remember my brother, gives me time to think, and it is fun/rewarding.

I just started playing around with an airbrush for the first time this weekend and think it's pretty fun.

They're pretty damn amazing... i need to get a tank for my compressor... it shouldn't, but mine surges a bit now and then and can't have that!

Yeah, I'm not listening to them. I'll be working on this and a couple of others in the coming days, documenting everything as I go.

Looking forward to it. I enjoyed your Corvette project immensely.

Hull is weathered now, turret is not. Going to weather it, the seal whole thing with a dull coat, and move on to model #2.

Looks fantastic.

I'm working on mine, should have some video soon. I forgot to remove the damn windshield on that truck when I sprayed it with paint remover.

Goodbye windshield.
