Irony of Drew Brees

Drew Brees just became the NFL passing leader as the Saints qb. The irony is Nick Saban wanted Brees at Miami and not Culpepper but the Miami brass wanted Culpepper. If Saban gets Brees at the Phins, Saban could still be at Miami and Brees may or may not have broken the record. Big case of what ifs.

Sorry if this is a repeat.

And Meyer doesn't lose and get worried about competition and leave, and we have more titles, and bama is still a door mat, etc etc.

If I had a nickel for every time this series of ifs was repeated online or on ESPN.

If Cam Newton doesn’t act like a complete sphincter while he’s at UF, we probably win the title in ‘10 and have another Heisman statue at the stadium.

I'll believe a gator. Channing Crowder said Saban is the one who picked Culpepper. Other players have confirmed his statement. Saban royally screwed up. Those players talked about what a joke he was. Even with Brees, I think Saban gets fired in the next year or two.

Brees was a recruiting afterthought in high school despite a 16-0 record his senior year. Only Purdue and Kentucky offered him scholarships.

RECRUITERS DIDN'T WANT HIM DESPITE HIS UNBEATEN HIGH SCHOOL RECORD, AND THERE WERE TIMES WHEN HE DIDN'T WANT TO PLAY FOOTBALL ANYMORE. BUT DREW BREES LANDED IN THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME.

There were no Rivals rankings in 1997 and he wasn't recruiting at all by the big name Texas schools in his home state. So he was pretty much a borderline 2/3* QB.

Even if we accept your premise (Brees to Miami), playing it out...

Thought Saban, choose to be an overlord over college kids than dealing with NFL grown men and their personalities. I think he was gone either way.

Truthfully Cam was a choir boy on that team. A whole bunch of players running wild on that team with far greater transgressions...,up to and including shooting people. Should have kept him and won another 1 or 2 championships. Cam was petulant and immature but he was no thug.

I live in So. Louisiana.

Drew Brees is a Total Class Act
He loves and embraces N.O.
Awesome Family Man
Puts his teammates first
He is one of the best things to happen to N.O.
He and the Manning Family are ICONS

And yet we can tolerate a guy who shoots multiple people in the face if he is a starter.

I think you are right. Brees was coming off shoulder surgery and is small for an NFL QB.

We all took wait and see...and the rest is history

I thought the issue was he left before his "trial" for cheating.

It was and I'm glad we don't have a statue of Cam. As a person, he is not in the same league as the other 3...Talent Maybe? Character...NOT EVEN CLOSE

I was waiting for a flag for: Excessive Celebration, or Unsportsmanlike Conduct, or even Delay of Game.

I seem to recall SVP on ESPN saying that the refs DID throw a flag... is that right?
