Anyone else worried that now that even the staunchest of the Mullen dumpers are pretty much on board, we are being set up to have our nuts ripped off and stuffed in our Donkey-like pie-holes?

I'm hoping for a relaxing blowout, because a back and forth game, or worse yet, if we have to come from behind, it's going to make for a very uneasy Saturday morning.

Standfast, Sir! The G-Titanic has blown ballast!

It's funny how your memory sometimes plays tricks on you. For some reason I was thinking Vandy always gives the Gators a bad time in Nashville. So to get to the bottom of that feeling, which was wrong by the way, I did a little research:

The last time the Gators lost AT Vandy: Oct. 1988 Vandy 24 Gators 9
The last time the Gators lost to Vandy at home: Sept. 2013 Vandy 34 Gators 17
The last time the Gators lost to Vandy before Sept. 2013: the road loss in 1988
The score for the last game at Vandy in 2016: Gators 13 Vandy 6

The game scores AT Vandy before 2016 back through the Spurrier years?
2014 Gators 34 Vandy 10
2012 Gators 31 Vandy 17
2010 Gators 55 Vandy 14
2008 Gators 42 Vandy 14
2006 Gators 25 Vandy 19
2004 Gators 34 Vandy 17
2002 Gators 21 Vandy 17
2000 Gators 43 Vandy 20
1998 Gators 45 Vandy 13
1996 Gators 28 Vandy 21
1994 Gators 24 Vandy 7
1992 Gators 41 Vandy 21

So other than 2016, 2006, 2002, and 1996 it has basically been a blowout. So I'm not sure why I was always have this feeling about Vandy at Nashville but the record says otherwise.

Funny how memory plays tricks on you....

Your memory isn’t as bad as you think. I’ve been to the last 10 of those over the past 20 years, and in many of those games the final score doesn’t represent the difficulty. Many times it was a race for 3 quarters, and our depth allowed us to run away in the 4th quarter. I don’t know what it is...swoon after a tough game, looking ahead, or what. We seem to take them lightly every year.

It's wild right, despite the facts above, it always felt like a tug of war visually. If we don't get our act together quickly, Vandy can take this thing from us... pesky most of the game... glad the data proves the Gators mostly woke up and finished business :fistbump:

Like others have alluded, we have an actual rebuild program going on. No questioning us, we're proven Championship Fans, our lost decade teams had no clue how to get there. Now, an ex-champion coach is back helping to guide the mindset again. I'm interested to see if notable maturity and parade of different players stepping up at crunch continues. Basically, avoid the TRAP GAME stigma, as NV pointed out. A big step that an identity may be unleashing. IMO. Go Gators!!

Just another myth that becomes true if you repeat it enough.

UF's recent bad staffs have had trouble getting teams ready to play games like this. It will be interesting to see if Mullen has the guys ready to play and playing well this week.
Our recent bad staffs had trouble getting teams ready to play any games.

Is dispatching an underdog quickly and cleanly a more certain mark of a superior team than upsetting a favorite?

Good question and I have not done a study. I will say that under Spurrier and Meyer UF regularly beat non power 5 teams by huge amounts. The last couple of guys have at times needed OT to beat FAU and a blocked punt to beat UL-Monroe.

How can you be considered a superior team if you’re the underdog?

While I’ve been to 3 SECCGs, several UGA games in Jax and neutral site games in Tampa and Orlando, Vandy is the only road SEC game I’ve been to - in 2002. I was working on a Masters degree in TN and a Gator buddy offered me a ticket.

Had a great time with my friend but it was a surreal, depressing atmosphere. It was a noon EST kickoff, which meant 11am local time. There was zero interest or energy on campus about the game. Few tailgates scattered around, one restaurant/bar open that was packed but nothing else. Zero indication a game was on that day.

The stadium was battleship gray - like a ship for the Commodore, get it? Dull. The sky was gray, as it is there from October through April. There were 6,000 Gator fans tucked in one corner and about 3,000 Vanderbilt fans scattered around the rest of the stadium. Had it been a ship it would have tipped over.

With so few fans, concessions were paltry and bad. I love a hot pretzel at a game. Theirs was cold and hard.

The game was dull despite being Grossman v. Jay Cutler. The Gators won 21-17 but looked listless.

I went in 2008(?) and that pretty much describes it. Energy is so low they should call it the Jeb Bush bowl. I don't know if it's the cool weather, early start or just the feeling that it's an exhibition game. Hard to get excited as a team when the crowd is so quiet you can hear them munching popcorn.

Doesnt make a damn bit of sense

"trap game"? This game would have the makings of one...if it wasn't for the fact that unlike in occasional years past, Vandy has shown no signs of fielding a competitive squat this year.

Which is exactly what would make it a trap game. Vandy's players are no worse than they were prior to playing a game. So as in any trap game, the opponent could play better than expected and the favorite team might not play their best.

Like I said, I would call it a potential trap game if Vandy had any kind of a chance of beating us...
Kintucky and Vandy are basically the same team, although Kintucky has a better back (obviously).
