Quintin Dunbar....and that's literally an NFL "success story". It's so rare that everyone brings it up because there are literally NO other examples of it. It's like saying "he's the next Percy" - ummmm, no he's not. Cleveland is a WR. Period.
I agree. I came here to post the same thing. Position changes aren't easy. It's very difficult to switch positions and excel at said position.

I didn't start the thread BTW, but I do see his point. You said it almost never happens, not true.

I meant that it doesn't happen w/ success. The OP suggests he has NFL size and would be able to play at the next level. Unless he beats out one of our already established players - who have been playing Safety, not WR - he's going to be a backup Safety on his college team. But the OP has him making the NFL. It rarely happens...

Making an NFL roster isn't easy. But there are plenty of examples of it happening. Whether Cleveland could do it or would even want to is another argument but act like it never happens, it does.

Prove it @Swamp Donkey. Show me where the guys are that are switching positions and going to the NFL. And I don't mean Freshmen changing positions, but established upperclassmen.
Sherman changed his Jr year at USC. Adoree Jackson came into the league as a receive I believe. You think Sanders couldn't have been WR in the NFL? How about Hines Ward. Edelman was a QB in College. Waverly Jackson play OG at Indy but was a DT at VT. I have given several examples and you aren't acknowledging them. That's on you.

CB is the easiest position to play on the field. No other position has so many true freshmen excelling. Safety is the next easiest defensive position.

I'm done here. You're just being stubborn about you position and that won't change with 1000 ex. Alex was smart enough to say that way earlier than me.

Cleveland is our clear cut #2 receiver. No reason at all to move him to safety

THIS is the point. It's a silly thread.

If we were talking about Wells then we'd have something to talk about....instead we're moving one of our top WR's to DB - for no reason.

I'm not the type to get nailed to an opinion. IMO, my greatest gift is that I take to reproach well. You just haven't adequately convinced me of your stance. I don't get emotional about this. I enjoy exchanging dialogue with people that have different views than I do. It's how I increase my wisdom.

Cleveland is a good WR who I think would make a good safety.

That’s all I got.

Sam Shields, former Cane, did it (WR to CB).

I agree with you though that Cleve should stay at WR.

Eli Williams, who made the move from RB to CB (while still in college). But, to the point, it's very rare....and at this point he's still a valuable WR on this team.
beat me to it.............

Alex is easily one of the best posters we have. He combines a robust knowledge of history with a thirst
for gator sports. You won't find a smarter person on the board. That said, this is an absolutely terrible idea. For a number of reasons.
#1 being Tyrie has been a very good receiver from the moment he decided to play football. His combination of size and speed alone
make him valuable. In man coverage Saturday he drew a big flag. I can remember thinking watching live that it was a good play by the LSU
DB. If he doesn't interfere it's an easy six for the good guys.

#2- Depth. We have depth at safety. Four guys (3 of them underclassmen ) are performing either well or better than expected in the case of Stiner. It's also true that we have depth at receiver, but we play far more receivers than we do safety. A better argument could possibly be made to a move at corner. Which Dre Massey has done, but hasn't yet seen the field on defense to my knowledge.

#3- Fundamentals - Unless blitzing a FS is always taught first step back. A WR first step is always forward . Even if you're catching a quick bubble you have to make the defensive back think. Otherwise the screen is going the other way for 6. This isn't like making a bigger backer an End, or a lighter end a backer. Fundamentally the first step there is the same. In short I believe Alex might need to have his head examined.
He's a bright guy, but asking a player who is a consistent man to man matchup problem from one side of the ball to the other is absolute nonsense.
