I worry about the carolinas there might be new flooding from the rain. I dislike them using overly emotional terms for the effects, it is a cat 3 which is a decent cane, but not really a catastrophe, that would be cat 5.
Agreed.....but would you ever truly expect them to say...."this is going to be a run-of-the-mill, no big deal storm". They are going to paint it like the second great flood with EVERY storm. Ratings.

On a side note--for years, I have been sick of hearing the term "hunker down". The ONLY instances you ever hear it are UGA fans trying to emulate Larry Munson....and news reporters discussing what people who stay for hurricanes do. That's it. No exceptions. I don't think I have ever heard it expressed in any other fashion. People never say they're going to hunker down for any other reason---just a storm, or just if they are UGA fans. Period.

It simply grates on my sense of intelligence every time I hear someone say they're "going to hunker down".

My wife grew up in Denver and California. She uses the term "hunker down" when she's talking about putting her head down to get busy with work or in the office. She's was never a college football person till we met. Every time she says it, I cringe, get sick to my stomach and tell her only Dwags say the ****. I absolutely hate hearing her use that term. Makes me want to puke.

Just found this comment on a weather forum. Scary stuff for those who are mariners and truly understand what kind of marine forecast this is. It covers the Marine Zone Forecast from TAE this is the 20-60NM Zone from Apalachicola to Destin.

"Tonight
hurricane conditions. East winds 30 to 35 knots with gusts to around 60 knots becoming southeast 57 to 67 knots with gusts to around 80 knots after midnight. Seas 25 feet building to 49 feet with occasional seas up to 62 feet. Dominant period 11 seconds. Protected waters extremely rough. Showers and thunderstorms.

Wednesday

hurricane conditions expected. Southeast winds 69 to 79 knots with gusts to around 110 knots becoming southwest 59 to 69 knots with gusts to around 95 knots in the afternoon. Seas 59 feet with occasional seas up to 75 feet subsiding to 38 feet with occasional seas up to 48 feet. Dominant period 11 seconds. Protected waters extremely rough. Showers and thunderstorms."

o_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

For those in here who are boaters--this kind of marine forecast would make you pucker big time.

In a twisted sort of way, I did find some humor in that marine forecast....

A)--Doe anyone really care there will be "showers and thunderstorms" after dealing with 75' seas???

B)--Such irony in this: "waves subsiding to 38 feet". Really? Subsiding? It's only gonna be a 3-story wave when it finally eases off.:rotfl:

For some unimaginable images of Mexico Beach.....

This is testament to just how bad things are. And as we all know, pictures never do this kind of thing justice. I can only imagine seeing it in person would be humbling at the very least.

Didn't this thing get up to a high Cat4, almost a Cat5, right before it hit? I think it is now the 3rd strongest one in history to have ever come ashore in the US.

Yes it did, I posted when it was expected to be a minimal cat 3 not almost or really a cat 5. That shows that the models for such don't work that well. Better than in the past, but still not that good.

For those familiar with Cape San Blas/St. Joseph peninsula....this is amazing. It's no longer a "peninsula"--it's now an island.o_O

I only posted the two images pertaining to The Cape to keep it short. You need to go to this guy's twitter page and see his entire string of "before/after" shots. Absolutely staggering.

A night shot from NASA showing lights glow in the southeast US before & after. This is impressive to see how the path of Michael eliminated electrical power.
