My first thought when I saw the Chauncey tweet was, you have to be kidding me. This again? If we compiled a list of UF players at just three positions(WR, DB and DE) who made a questionable decision to leave early only to never be heard from again, it would rival the “longcat”.

Same with Polite. If SEC coordinators have found ways to take you out of games, using amateur athletes, and you don’t have an answer...there’s probably zero chance you're ready for the next level. May as well stick it out and master your craft.

That said, if these guys are cancers or are of the JM mold, I’m fine if they go.

this is going to get worse over college football before it gets better. Chauncey sees were not playing for anything anymore, has had a decent season. Probably getting bad advice. Why not shut it down get ready for the draft than play out the string and play in some meaningless bowl game and possibly get injured like Jaylon Smith did. Nick Bosa doing the same damn thing and his team is still possibly in the tournament.

Outstanding post. I agree with everything you said, Truth. I didn't see the game, but from the pass log you provided, it looks to me as if Trask played much better than Franks. I'd like to see him start next week and play well enough throughout the game to stay in to the end. What a statement that would make to the team and to recruits: Play well, or get out of the way for those who can.

The defense probably changed late in the game. Trask to me has earned the next start but if he does not play well he gets the hook. Perhaps it is time to rotate like SOS did a long time ago. The oline also has a deficiency, not to mention no rush from our defense.

The defense did change with 5 min left in the 3rd and fourth quarter, up by 25 and playing an offense that couldn't get out of its own way. They were allowing the short stuff, trying to prevent quick scores that would allow us to get back in the game. They were also subbing in backups more frequently.

Ive said this before and will say it again, the student section needs to be cut in half or even cut down by 2/3rds. I took my long term girlfriend to her first Gator game (shes an Arizona alum), dropped close to 1k for the weekend and felt like I was watching numbers be called at a bingo hall. Sitting on the alumni side, I didn't see too many open seats but starring at the half-filled mute student section was depressing. I can't think of another stadium out there that allots an entire half of premium seating to students. Yes I get the fact that the upper-sections were scarce as well but pull the plug on these entitled bastards.

That's part of what Mullen is talking about in his comments about the competitive edge lacking in some of our players. We have a chance to end the home slate on a high note, a chance to beat our in-state rivals for the first time in his career, and get to 10 wins with a bowl victory. There's absolutely still something to play for.

And the second bold part is my point. Do these guys not understand that it's a league of professional only players who are the best of the best at their positions? How does a decent season--which I think is already stretching it considering the passing teams have typically had their way with our secondary--give you the impression that you'd somehow be elite enough on the next stage to make a career? The sad thing is, in most of these cases, these kids love the game and have been playing it their whole lives. But then, against better judgement, they voluntarily make a decision that takes 12-14 remaining games away and all but guarantees they'll never play in one again.

I can get guys like Bosa. He's a lock to be a first rounder. But I can't imagine any scenario where CGJ is even a first day guy based on his boy of work to date. He was a laughing stock at this point last year.

You're right though. It's a new reality we have to face. I just don't get it.

Devil's Advocate:
UF has something to play for, what do games against Cocks, Idaho, Semenholes, and a who gives a fck bowl game do for CGJ? If he is nicked up, why continue?

I think he is probably getting bad advice, but it's not the strongest DB draft either. He is rated somewhere between the 2-4 safety in this draft with a round projection 1-3 (depending on the source). I'm guessing he is hearing a lot of 1's.

I agree with you in not liking it, but the worst thing that happened in this regard is having Jaylon Smith projected top 5 pick get his knee torn to schit on National television and him lose millions of dollars falling to the second round (on a 4th round grade due to the injury).

Agree the student section looked pitiful and sucks for the UF brand on tv and recruiting. If UAA is still selling large blocks of tix to student organizations (e.g. clubs, teams, Greek orgs) it should monitor who shows up and who doesn’t. They already have the data on which tickets are redeemed at the gates, so maybe (?) UAA already is? If X% of an organization’s tix aren’t used, don’t let them buy a block of tix the next year.

Like I said, I can't imagine a player being ok with going winless against their arch rivals, or choosing to go out on a loss. It just says so much about their competitive nature, and if I'm an NFL GM, it would be worrisome to me. And I get that I'm approaching "get off my lawn" territory, but guys like Tebow and Spikes weren't that long ago.

Ftr, I also didn't realize he was projected that high. That is surprising to me.

First Tebow and Spikes are a decade ago... and I don't disagree about the winless aspect. And yes you are well into the "get off my lawn".

Doubt he’s played much at all, but he’s collecting a check.

Was watching the Bengals on a Sunday or Thursday night this year... and he was out with the offense (game was over, just getting to 0:00) and he was doing what a backup should do in garbage time. I doubt he sees a second contract.

Can we just stop talking about if Mullen is the guy or not the guy until after he has had some time to get his juju going. We caught a glimpse of it so far this season and it looked good. We still have residual butter's stank on this team that I believe the only way to get it out is recruit it out. He is a pretty darn good football coach that players like but he ain't no darn magician. This slump isn't something that is crazy or out of the realm of possibility either. These players on this team have been losing for so long its hard to change. And when you are halfway through an SEC season and you still have to grind, quitters gonna quit, no matter how hard you try to change them. What I have seen over the last few games ... quitters quitting.

Yup. It was very noticeable that the alumni side was plenty full while there were large gaps on the student side. It was pathetic.

This current crop of students hasn't seen a good UF team and were very young that last time UF was dominating so it doesn't surprise me much that most of them decided to take a 3 day weekend out of town.

The freshman class this year, would have been 8/9 years old when the team was a one lost top 5 team.
