What do you think is going on with Franks in practice?

I believe there are some coaches and former coaches on here. I'm a former and the question of how a QB performs in practice vs. live action is an important one.

For QB's, practice is essentially a non-contact activity. I've seen very capable QB's who couldn't play under the lights. The variable of knowing that a violent collision with another human being while in a defenseless state is possible is daunting. A QB has to put it entirely out of his mind to be effective. Maybe FF is a world beater in practice. He certainly has the physical gifts. Maybe he fears contact. He wouldn't be the first QB to be thus ruined. Kickers are subject to the same affliction.

Behind the line he has played the last 2 years (really longer) every quarterback that has played behind it is probably gunshy.

Is he missing wide open guys and playing anxious even when he has time like in games? If so, why haven’t we figured out how to fix it?

Or is he performing well but simply unable to make it translate to games?

Just baffling how up and down he is.

I suspect they are constantly coaching him on reading defenses. I am not sure how you coach an irratic arm to be more consistent?

I guess one could try to coach your QB to take something off some throws, but with guys like Franks that often leads to terrible picks even pick sixes. Think the pick against UGa where he tried to float it over the under DB and got no where close.

The bottom line is that somethings can not be taught. You can not teach feel for the game. You can not teach someone to sense backside pressure. You can not teach touch. These three things are why people have been skeptical of Franks from the first time they saw him play.

This. Said it at another board. 7 on 7s have ruined a lot of QBs. I don't give a crap what a QB looks like in practice. Winning practice games isn't winning. It helps to know you aren't going to get the crap knocked out of you in practice.

Mullen said Trask and FF were REAL close in practice and that is why he didn't pick a starter until opening week. If there is a significant drop off from practice to game with one player, why not try the other?

Trask is accurate and can think on his feet.

With our RBs and guys like Toney do we need a running QB...That will be here soon enough.

You can't have guys wide open and the QB throws to the receiver 4 yards short of the 1st.

Its like porn stars. The difference between me and a male porn star is how I perform in privacy is a lot different than in a room with cameras, lights and a whole lot of people watching. Or so I am told ...

Toney? He has commitment issues. Dude can't take the first hole he sees ... he has to run sideways for 2-3 minutes until about the 5th actual hole and then right into a finger tackle. A defender breaths on him and he is tackled.

I don't really know what he is doing in practice, but I HOPE it's learning how to not fumble the clipboard!

Just asking.

And for God's sake, don't ask him to pass you the clipboard. You could lose an eye.
Trash has hurt himself the last two years with the clipboard while wearing a redshirt. Lets just be very very careful with this whole clipboard thing. Ours should be plastic. Better yet, have a GA carry it for them.

I'd probably keep those thoughts to myself.
